Manifold installation question
most of the manifold write ups say that i need to unbold the downpipe so everything can wiggle a little bit...the problem is i wanna do the install myself to save some money and i dont have a jack to be able to do that... has any1 done the swap by just unbolting the manifold....i dont see why it shouldn't just come off, can some1 explain this a little more for me
thanks
thanks
Yes you can. There is a support bracket holding the o2 housing and turbo up. Even the oil return line is strong enough to support the wieght of the turbo(but do this at your own risk).

remove all the nuts / bolts
on the front of the manifold is a lip to get leverage when prying it up
the turbo / 02 housing moves slightly (up and down) when upbolted from the manifold. this movement is what you use to get the manifold off the front 2 threads
when installing my DC SPorts manifold, it didn't go that simply. I had to unbolt oil return pipe, unbolt turbo o2 bracket so Everything would drop, in order to get the factory manifold off. I thought it was as easy as just unbolting manifold and prying it up over the studs on the very front of the turbo flange. I did use a lift in which you say you don't, but I redcommend doing it the safe way. Rather than posting another thread or searching for answers to fix a mistake. Be careful when unbolting oil return pipe...most of your oil will drain out.
here's a pic of the manifold on my car after install, before the heat wrap on the upper rad hose

yeah have to remove the oil lines to the turbo, the downpipe, the o2 housing form the block, I would highly sugest removing the radiator it is very easy to remove gives you lots of space to work with. you dont need to but believe me it's worth it. You can use the spare jack in the trunk to lift the car but then I would sugest putting something under the tires or the car. good luck

also when you the bolts out make sure you spray them with antiseize, just in case you need to remove it in the future.. I learned my lesson last time.

reduces the risk of damaging other pieces
This is how I did it.
I think there is enough wiggle once o2 housing is freed. I don't think it is going to hurt oil and coolant lines. They are designed to be bit flexible to the movement( but not that flexible so be careful).
1 take out the under tray
2 unbolt the downpipe from o2 housing( you don't have to take out the whole down pipe if unbolting from just o2 gives you enough room to move.)
3 unbolt the 1 bolt that holds o2 housing from the engine block.
4 unbolt the ex manifolds from turbo and block.
5 pull toward the radiator and lift up ( this is the tricky part, It requires powerful arm muscle plus skill.
I found that you have to take the mani out from the block studs first and lift up)
