- Reacts faster (especially this one since it has two valves)
- Adjustable (my factory diverter valve was actually adjusted wrong and didn't blow under moderate lift, causing noticable intake surge)
I am still very confused about this....
What kind of "adapter" did you use? I dont know what kind of BOV I want to get, I would like to hear a few (vented to atmosphere of course). I LOVE the BOV sound, I had a TurboXS on my DSM and it was too much of a "woosh" sound, I want a nice "psssst" sound. I've heard the SSQV on a stealth and loved it. Is there anyway you can get a few sound clips of your SSQV vented back to the intake and vented to the atmosphere?
ALSO, what is this kit all about: http://www.ultimate-racing.com/Produ...x-US-BOV.shtml
I am sorry if you answered some of my questions, but like I said, I am still very confused about the whole "BOV" concept in the EVO"s, its so much easier on a DSM since its right on top of the ic pipes too...

You can get a much better price than $325! I spent $40 too much and I paid $280! Sheesh!
Now that I got that out of the way...
The HKS SSQV 95-99 Eclipse Kit (HKS part number 1421-SM4US) comes with everything you need, whether you want to VTA or not. If you look under the intake pipe that runs along the right side of the valve cover you'll notice the hose that comes off of it that goes to the factory BOV, that's where it goes.
I'll get sound clips as soon as I can...

for anyone interested in getting this BOV, I found a group buy for $215 shipped. http://www.groupbuycenter.com/buy.aspx?id=9956
Does Cold air induction kit improve the bogging?
Hi, i was doing some research before my HKS BOV arrive to what is good, what is bad about it and i came across this nice instructions and forums.
I was curious, Does your EVO8 stall after u installed the HKS BOV? Because i heard people said they may stall the car? Or I can cure the problem by adjusting the screw on the BOV??
Also, if i change the factory airbox to cold air induction kit, will that improve the bogging causing by the after-market BOV?
And u said something about running rich, does that only cause the bogging?? And is the bogging really really bad or just a little bit? Apart from bogging, is there any other bad effect to the car if running rich???

Guys check out my SSQV from the EVO 7 kit. Relocates teh BOV to behind the battery for easier access. Also, it is a VTA kit for all of you that likes the pssshhhh sound. Sound clips are posted also. As of now there is no problems waht so ever. This kit is pretty rare in teh states. I havent found any sites that carry them. I had to go through my pals at Fizz JDM importers to get them for me.
Check out my BOV

Surge from improper BOV adjustment is the BOV not popping and causing more air to get to the combustion chambers. A quick explanation is that when you let off a bit the intake fills up with air and slows the air flowing through the Airflow sensor. The sensor reads less air and the fuel is backed off... but there still is a lot of air in the intake tract from before (because it wasn't released from the BOV), putting the combustion mix further to lean, which causes a surge in power.
I have had ZERO idle problems. No stalling, nothing.
CAI should not cause bogging. CAI will not cure bogging... it just promotes cooler, more dense air going into the turbo.

Installed Greddy Type S instead
Thanks for your reply....
But well, after I waited so long for the HKS BOV, they still dun have any stock.. (in New Zealand, that just stupid!
).
So i decided to install the Greddy type S instead. The sound is not bad at all (cheaper too
)... And also I installed the BOV close to the throttle body instead, not at the stock position. So now is VTA mode instead of re-direct back to intake.
And my car don't have any stall problem and it run great... less turbo lag too....
Man, I should have install it like 4 to 5 years ago when i first got the car.....

The reasons you don't vent a BOV on a car with a MAF are twofold:
1. The air has been counted. You will run rich between shifts as that air escapes. Bogging when you get back on the throttle isn't fun.
2. Most blow-off valves are OPEN AT IDLE. Vacuum pulls the valve open. Your car will stall on falling revs as uncounted air gets sucked through that opening. Also, the air isn't filtered, unless you put some kind of filter over that opening, of course.
The HKS SSBOV has been popular because it doesn't remain open at idle so if you don't mind the rich-shift issue, you can go ahead and sacrifice for the sound. Other than that, it's been a very controversial valve. None of us in SoCal-DSM would be caught dead with it, but I know there are other DSM-ers who do run it.
