HKS SSQV sound clips, decent recording

ok people I've added official, kick-*** if I might say so myself, recordings of the BOV. The crappy one was left in and was dubbed, "-Preview-".

http://www.collectracecars.com/evo/h...htm#soundclips

With the airbox replaced the blow-off sounds VTA even though I'm recirc'ing. Listen for yourself.

Also note when listening:
- NO BOG
- NO SURGE
- NO STALLING
- INSTANT SPOOL

hey i was just wondering... i dont know much about BOV but i have been reading about it. when you are shifting gears when only lightly accerlerating why does it flutter? when under hard acceration it gives the psshh sound. do all BOV's do that? thanks

No, it's just a function of the HKS SSQV since it has dual valves for releasing pressure: the small one (which flutters) for minor blowoffs and the big one for high boost blowoffs which create the loud solid sound. That's one of the biggest appeals of this valve.

I was also wondering about the flutter before you explained it. I thought it was compressor surge and the BOV wasn't working properly.

Fluttering is normal for HKS SSQV BOVs.

It is a common thought that flutter is normal on SSQVS. Actually it is not true. It may be common in this particular application, but we can't blame the valve entirely. On my car for example, there is no flutter. The valve will always open when the throttle is closed. The difference is that mine is installed right after the turbo outlet. Since the opening of the SSQV relies on boost actuation and the vacuum source, I always get a good opening by having it installed in this locatoin. In your application, with the valve installed in a different location it could possibly flutter. The vacuum is enough to pull the smaller purple valve open slightly, but not enough to vent the air.

A more aggressive acceleration provides more boost to the valve and more vacuum upon throttle close, allowing the valve to open fully as designed.

QUESTION!!! I have the Greddy type-s installed and recirculated.. Everything seems to be fine.. With the exception of the idle... I have an AFC installed and I monitor the revs... Normally at idle, it is at about 830rpms... With a/c it is at 940rpms... Sometimes to usually when the a/c is off, the idle speed will vary between the normal 830, then suddenly it'll almost tsall and drop to like low 600's... Then it'll catch itself and return to normal.. While I'm at a light or just sitting somewhere, it'll do that every minute or two... Is the spring too loose? Cause I'm pretty sure that it's really close to being all the way loose... Any suggestions??

you may need to tighten the bov a little bit, On a 1.8T gti i waas tunning it turned out that we had opened the bov to far. Starting adjusting one way and see if it gets better, if it doesnt then start working the other way. Fortunatly the problem your having is easily tunable with car just idling.

very nice but I was wondering do you really need that little plastic valve on the vacuum line? Every other bov I have had I didnt use it and just put the vacuum line directly on the bov.

No it doesn't, sorta. The stock line from the intake manifold had a bigger inner diameter than the BOV's in. That plastic piece came with the kit to reduce it to the right size.

UPDATED: link to web page

register.com be damned! I have some issues with them so the original collectracecars.com domain name is hung up by them. So I updated the original message using a different domain name:
