Evilution: I doubt the instrument cluster is that easy. My bets are that there is an incandescent bulb behind those, and the red color comes from the plastic number overlay. In order to change the color you'd probably have to change that overlay.

Jonasan: I don't think it's a direct match. I used some red Autometer covers, so it's not quite the orange of the instrument cluster. It's closer than bluish white though. Of course it doesn't match the radio now. I wonder how hard it would be to tear that apart.

I'm assuming most of the other bulbs in the car should be she same as this. It's just a matter of getting to them and covering them up or painting them.

pisetup: I'm guessing the OZ should be exactly the same, especially given BlackLancer2k2's pic of the blue LED install. I bet you can get bulb covers at Pep Boys, AutoZone, etc. They might not be an exact fit, but as you can see from mine, it doesn't really need to be.

In any case, I don't know if I'm going to leave mine like this, it was more just to prove to myself it could be done (maybe in case I get red or green backlit gauges and put them in the dash). And so I could let other know how to do this in case they want to.

dont think I didn't notice that this is what I posted about a month or 2 back; (https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...limate+control)

but you had pictures with the writeup, so i dont mind. great detail and writeup. Allow me to add a bit more, as I experiemnted with this a bit.

I used the bulb covers found at pepboys.com. They give you an exact color match to speedo when you double them up and take off the blue condom. I simply put 2 condoms on the lower right bulb, and folded a condom in half and placed in between right side of upper bulb and the clear plastic piece. This lets the temp control knob show up much better (blue and orange instead of light orange on dark orange), and allows the color to match the guages exactly.

My writeup (and a pic)for it can be found in the link above.

Yep good plan. I was thinking of changing the gage lighting to blue to have it match the A/C controls plus HKS LED gages. Let us know if you cange out the gage meter lighting. Thanks for pics.

I just did this, I used 1/2" pieces of red translucent insulation stripped from some 8 guage amp power wire. Worked quite nicely, as the tops of the bulbs don't really illuminate anything, so if the sides are colored the dials are a uniform red.

The covers are good for this and common amongst a lot of cars.
Do not paint or use anything else, the bulbs get very hot and will melt it or worse...

And chances are you are out of luck on the dash since it is already orange so the bulbs will be clear. There maybe general lighting bulbs in there but you don't want them not to match the rest of the gauges.

umm...actually yah they light up the area just fine around the A/C controls..I have blue led's on mine...look at my pic on first page...newayz, using led's is slightly dimmer since it shines straight forward, and not all around like bulbs do...if you aim the led to the side you'll get a lil more light to go thru that plastic aluminating piece...but to hook up led's is simple, do a search for it, i'm sure you'll find all the instuctions you need

I'm assuming hopefully you have removed the control knobs, and unscrewed the screws underneath the 2 end knobs, but with all of those removed you shuld be able to pull apart the panel with your hands, or use a screwdriver to wedge it out, it comes apart very easily for me, i have had that thing off sooo many times

Does anyone know the bulb size used in the climate control panel?
I'm either going to replace them with better bulbs, replace with with LEDs, or just change the condom. However, for some reason, I checked Autozone and Lappens and they never even heard of autometer condoms before (some guys even laughed, lolz!).
