here is a step by step break down after removal
1- clean very good before doing anything this is very important
2- scuff with a scotch bright no need to go sand crazy just scuff teh shine away giving the new paint a scuffed surface to adhere to
3- reclean very good again
4- apply paint in any matter that you choose
5- clear coat if neccesary
there is no need for primer unless you scuff away all the paint to a bare valve cover, thats how id do it and ive been painting cars for 9 years

anyone know about the torque specs though? I don't want to crack my valve cover putting it back on

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=222551

I found this thread and I believe that it states 31 pounds of torque, is that accurate and/or my reading correct on that?

Very minimal. Use a 1/4" ratchet w/ socket and just snug them up. Dont crank on them. You wont break the bolt you will just strip the hole.

Man i want that Plug Cover Jarrod! Just not coming up with $140 for it right now.
As for the Valve Cover Bolts i always just get them socket tight (when you have to think bout using force STOP) going in random order. They have a sponge type washer that gives when you tighten them. I dont see how anyone could think they needed to be so tight that they crack it?

I posted the torque specs for this a couple weeks ago. Its 3.5 nm which is 31 INCH lbs, not to be confused with ft lbs as you'll crack it if you torque to 31 ft lbs.

Can you reuse the valve cover gasket when you take it off? Or is it recommended to replace it?
