Serve engine light keeps coming on

This is the second time that my service engine light is on. Last time the dealer told me it was a misfire that caused it to come on.
They resetted it and I was on my way.
This time I am sure it is the same thing. I guess the evo does not like to be going fast.
Is there a code reader that I can buy, and how do I reset the system?
I don't want to go to the dealer everytime it comes on...

The misfire might be caused by the spark plugs since they have 12,000 miles on, but last time when I tried to buy new spark plugs at the delaer, they told that it is suppose to last over 45000 miles, the reason why it cost $45 each....

any insight....

you can go to any autozone, kragen or pep boys and they have obd-II scanners that you can either buy, usually $100+ or rent (sometimes they let you borrow them for free but leave a deposit) and you can clear them yourself.

45 bux each? good god!! but just like the above gentlemen said, get urself a scanner, it will be nice to have in the end once the cars get more miles and start having more problems. You'll be able to read ur codes, just a handy piece to have around

i actually got a weird one, and it was as i was leaving the dealer, a crank angle sensor failure, or something like that, but they told me the code cleared and they werent able to get it back, nothing has happened sinse.

What was the code? 0300 multi cyl missfire seems to be getting more and more common with the EVO.... I can almost make my EVO do this on command Hard accel to 100 mph (you know officer just cleaning out the plugs) typical freeway on ramp launch ;-) and on a slight downhill/flat between 70 and 90 just float the throttle decelerating and my car starts dieseling till I get out of it and then its OK but I have a SES light on the dash and a 0300 code to clear. I'm sure glad that I have a service call on this issue before I started modding the car.
