Straightning Steering Wheel
ok im going to make a long storie short a deer jumped out in front of me i swurved and missed did a 180 blew two tires got it up and running and had the alignment checked at the dealership they said it was within specks and its driveing straight but the wheel it self is turned to the left like 2 inches so it feels like im maken a left hand turn all the time. now to my question is their any easy way to straighten this out? i was thinking of just takeing the steering wheel off the colum and putting it back on straight but thats a good amout of work iv gotten it mostly apart got the airbag unplugged and what not i just cant get the spline i guess off to turn it the small amount to put it back on so i was hopeing someone knew of an easier way thanks for your help and if it works ill keep you all posted.

easiest would probably be to take it to a competent dealer's shop, and have them adjust the steering tie rods (move one side in and the other side out) to center the steering wheel with the wheels "straight ahead"...they'll have to do an alignment as well, basically, in order to do that...
seems a little odd to me, tho', that the wheel could have been deflected like that and the alignment still be "in spec"...

ya kinda what i was thinking ill probably call em up tomarrow and have it looked at again just kinda straped for cash n the dealer wants like $100 for the alignment..
There's a single allen screw that holds the wheel into place, but I'd have to agree with everyone else on getting it straightened at an alignment shop...that'd be the right way to do it. The shop you took it to was pretty careless to overlook the steering wheel...that's part of the job.

ya.. i tryed to losten that allen key but even with that lose or off i couldnt even turn the wheel cuz it was just that damn tight.. if ya got any good tips on straightning im up for tryn it so i dont got to pay to do the alignment
After the allen key has been removed, the wheel will pull straight back and off the splines, but it may have an effect on the way other things work, like your blinker cancelation...I would strongly suggest doing it right.
i have a strange rattle in my steering column in the morning or when i go over bumps...its about to get on my nerves...i think some wires maybe bouncing around in there or something...how do i get the steering column covers off to see whats going on in there?? ....one less rattle for me, one less worry.
on the bottem right side of the wheel their is a little cover that comes off that has a yellow plug that goes into the air bag.. be verry verry carefull cuz you dont want to set the air bag off.. iv been told if you unplug the battery for 2 or more min b4 doing any thing it should be ok.. key word their is should.. but try to find what part of the steering wheele or colum the sound is comeing from b4 riping it apart.. i havent gotten the colum apart yet.. so im of no help their.. to take the wheel off ull need a tork size 30 and a allen key 8mm
Did you disable the air bag before you unpluged it? I'm not sure if theres a specific way to do it on a Mitsu, but with the cars I work on all you have to do is disconnect the battery for 20min. (It takes quite a few mins for everything to power down) You may have the air bag light on if you left the battery connected, in which you may have to go to the dealership to shut off. This may or may not happen, just letting you know my experiance with airbags. There have been stories of air bags going off when being reconnected with the battery connected. Just be carefull.
I've got this problem to. My wheel is ever so slightly angled towards the left. I did hit a pot hole and dent a rim a few weeks back. I think thats what caused it. The alignment still seems fine though.
Haven't dont anything yet, but it sounds like its better safe then sorry and have a shop just do an alignment the right way..
