How To Tune Your Greddy Profec B spec II
#137
Many thanks for this guide, even if it is a few years old now, it is worth it's weight in gold!.
Fitted the Greddy Boost Controller today on a EVO6 TME and works brilliant.
I did a few pictures over at http://www.lancerregister.com/showthread.php?t=201303 that may help someone.
Cheers
Sean.

I read through every post on here, found three other threads on here discussing this too. I took a lot of notes, and went out and tuned it last night. It took 70 miles of highway driving before I got it 100% PERFECT (3rd/4th/5th gear pulls). I got results that were quite a bit different from everyone else.
Here was my final settings for a stock (only airbox) IX MR -- to hold 19.5psi:
SET: 68%
GAIN: 9%
SET GAIN: 19.3psi
WARN: 21.0
LIMIT: 5%
What I found:
-- Increasing the gain to 10% or higher did NOT help reduce the amount of boost taper to the redline (as stated in the Greddy manual and in other posts). Increasing the gain added surging effects, while slightly increasing the boost. I even did several runs at very low settings (13psi), but high GAIN (even maxed out) -- just to see if it would hold boost solid to the redline (despite the surging effect). Even with GAIN maxed out, it still would loose 1.5+ psi to the redline.
-- Start Boost (SET GAIN) really needs to be as high as you can possibly set it to reduce boost taper. Something clicked when I read the Greddy manual and it said something ot the effect of: being where it triggered the action of the wastegate. I want to keep the wastegate closed as long as possible to hold the boost!! Despite a lot of tweaking, there was no settings combination that I could find that was not loosing 2-3 psi (and sometimes a little more) from peak to redline. I started increading my start boost closer and closer to my desired boost. 19.3psi seemed to be the number.
All in all -- I can say that I get very fast spool, very consistent rock solid boost that loses no more than 1psi to the redline in the high gears and no boost spike. Don't expect someone elses settings to work for you at all!! It didn't help me any Every car seems to be different, and what worked for me, seems to be a lot different from many other people on here.

Thanks ball, I went back out and reset my gain from 30 to 10 and got rid of all the surging. I had all my settings pretty close to yours. The set is 70. Set Gain is the only thing that I have different, its at 28. Warn 21, limit 5%. Im in Texas and can only get 90oct with E10.
BTW Great write up Arpad!!!!

setting the Controller is straight foward
set is a % of your stock actuator e.g if you take switch off the spec2 and you get only 12psi of boost setting it to 68% will give you 20.16psi e.g (12 x 1.68)
set gain this allows the wastegate to be shut until that value is met e.g if you used 19psi at your set gain your actuator should only open at the value... Tip if you want a little spike to help you reach that red line faster adjust it higher than the set value.
gain gain is used when you have your boost set at 20psi and at 5500 rpm it seems that it drops to 17psi even though greddy claims this works I have not been able to do so, to fix this I am going to add a spring to my already preloaded wastegate actuator rod.
Warning and lowering should be self explanatory if you want your maximum boost to be 24 psi and you creeping to 28psi take the max value for the warning and multiple by the amount you want it lowered to e.g lets use 15% here(.85 x 28psi)= 23.8psi

hi all , i just installed the profec b and it's working great, hitting 20.2 psi consistantly. i'm going to run it a few days then start turning it up a bit. however, i keep hearing this clicking sound when i'm getting on it. is it normal for profec b making the clicking sound?
thanks!

^ I think that clicking sound is just your solenoid, and pretty normal
I'd like to know how to check if the cap is there...
I have a really bad spike issue. When I set off at WOT from, say, 2000rpms in 3rd, the boost spikes all the way up to 1.8 before settling and holding at 1.4 bar like I want. Does this in every gear. Have tried fidding with the settings as much as I can think - tried putting the set at 0, lowering the warning, increasing the limiter, setting the gain to 5, etc.
Nothing I do seems to stop the initial spike to 1.8 though. After the spike it immediately goes down to whatever level I set - be it 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5 bar etc. but the spike seems to be uncorrectable so I'm thinking that is may be an issue of having the "cap" on etc.
My settings are:
set 65 (works out to about 1.4 bar on my car)
gain 10
set gain 1.30
warning 1.40
limiter 2
Am I doing something terribly wrong here?
Any help apprecuated.

Well I adjusted mine not too long ago. I'm running e85 at 30 psi
Set: 100%
Gain: 0
Set Gain: 0
Warning: 29.5
Limiter: 1.4
these setting are for my 1st - 3rd gears. Basically the wastegate is completely closed and won't open. I've set it up this way cause I won't be able to go past 30 psi in these gears anyhow.
I then switch to setting no. 2 with these settings:
Set: 80
Gain: 14
Set Gain: 0
Warning: 29.5
Limiter: 1.4
Basically this holds boost to 30 psi for highway pulls.
Here's my max boost for each gear:
Setting no 1
1st: 19-22 PSI
2nd: 22-27 PSI
3rd: 28-30 PSI
Setting no 2
4th and 5th: 30-31 PSI
Occasionally I'll hit 32 PSI, but that's on cold days, nonetheless the car feels great.
Set: 100%
Gain: 0
Set Gain: 0
Warning: 29.5
Limiter: 1.4

Still fiddling...
Just curious what people have found works best vis a vis the relationship between Set Sain and Set (boost) - how much lower are people running the Set Gain than the Set value etc?
My settings at the moment:
High (nasty spike to 1.9 bar, holds 1.8-1.9 bar *rock solid* though):
Set 90
Gain 5
Set Gain 1.85
Warning 2.00
Limiter 4%
Low (holds 1.5 bar, tapers to 1.4 with no spike, but I do have a persistent boost hesitation at 0.9)
Set 70
Gain 5
Set Gain 1.25
Warning 1.60
Limiter 4%
What's annoying me with my low boost setting is that, although I know my Set Gain is really low, increasing the Set Gain anywhere above 0.14 Bar gives me a spike to 1.8, but with Set Gain anywhere below 0.9 bar and I get a hesitation at 0.9 (wastegate/strock pressure). No clue why, driving me nuts.
