How do I solve the stalling?
How do I solve the stalling?
Hi everyone Evo8 Noobie here. Anyway, here's my issue. My car's RPM drops below 500 and stalls about 30% of the time under certain conditions. Goes something like this, engine load (under almost any RPM) hit the clutch, hit the brakes, rpms drop below 500 and occasionally stalls. I have greddy s bov (recirc/1 spring mod), 3" intake with KN filter from rnr, SAFC, 3" TB, MBC. I've done some searches and found that it could be a variety of issues. I spent a good part of yesterday adjusting and readjusting the BOV (softening and hardening) and SAFC (leaning and richening at low throttle/low RPM) but problem still persists. Can anyone help an Evo brutha out? Thanks!
Its likely the "MAF Pipe" (the intake pipe) You can put the stock pipe back on and see if it goes away.. I'm not sure why it does this, but I get the same thing, I did log the problem and it seems that there is airflow reversing through the MAF sensor causing the engine to think its getting more airflow than it is..
It is either the air recirculating through BOV, or residual pressure in the intake tract causing the compressor to reverse (or surge) allowing the airflow to pass back through the intake..
So far I have not found an easy solution other than putting the stock intake pipe back.. If you want to spend money you can go with a blowthrough MAF sensor, or you can try the HKS EIDS (though I don't think it will function correctly in this particular situation)
Do you have the boost controller (MBC) tapped off the same vacuum line as the blowoff valve? If you do, put it back on where the stock solenoid gets its vacuum source.. I personally (and its becoming fairly well known) that it may not be a good idea to share that vacuum source with the DV/BOV

it works fine, what happens is when you let off the gas abruptly, the idle is set to 1200rpm, then idles down a few seconds later. that's with the pot pointing straight up (50%), on my car. I haven't had time to adjust it because I'm getting my clutch installed.

I have an EIDS and it solved 95% of my stalling problems. I think it will fix 100% once I get it dialed in correctly. The hardest thing is setting the EIDS properly if it is set to high the car will stall when started and if it is too low, it will have little or no effect.
Good luck, I think it is a good product and worth the $100 or so dollars.
