MIVEC into VIII parts list

Hey guys. I've been planning a MIVEC swap into my VIII since...I've bought it, lol. Can you tell I really wanted a IX? Anyways I've been researching it for about a year now and I have a IX head, ecu, random other things so far. I'm in no rush to get it done soon, just slowly amassing parts. But I think a definitive parts list would really help someone thinking about this. Information about the swap is there on the threads...but very disorganized. So here is what I know for the swap so far:

  • IX head (incl. valve cover, cams, intake cam sensor, mivec regulator, cam gear, etc.)
  • IX headgasket (basically the same as the VIII but a little thicker)
  • possibly IX intake manifold (USDM VIII and IX are the same, JDM/EDM/AUDM may not be)
  • IX engine harness - there are extra connectors for the mivec regulator, intake cam sensor, extra boost solenoid on the IXs, and relocated oil pressure sensor (its on the oil filter housing instead of the back of the block like a VIII)
  • IX trans harness (can splice your own to the IX engine harness)
  • mivec oil feed line*
  • IX ecu
  • cut the alternator bracket or get a IX alternator bracket (interferes with oil line)
  • IX rear o2 sensor (can splice your VIII to make it work)
And anything else needed for a regular head swap plus tune.

*There are a few solutions to the oil feed line. One is to get the stock oil port on the block drilled to accept the stock mivec fitting. Another is to make a custom line that will fit into the VIII block's smaller port. Third, you can use the MAP mivec feed line which runs from the standard oil pressure sensor on the back of the block (which you'd then relocate to the oil filter housing). Lastly, I believe the stock oil pressure sensor is a 1/8" NPT, so in that case you get a 3/8 BSPT to 1/8 NPT adapter and use one of the two free ports on the oil filter housing along with the MAP mivec feed line. I like the MAP line because it has a non-return valve built in like the factory mivec line has, but people have done the swap without a non-return line and claim no ill effects.

Please let me know if I'm missing anything. I'll add to the list.

The intake manifolds are the same in the US.

. Just figured that out today too. I was really confused though when MAP lists different prices for evo VIII and IX manifold cores for the rev3.

I'm not 100% sure but I believe the timing belt between the VIII and IX are interchangeable, even though they have different part #s in the US. Can anybody confirm?
