3G 4G64 w/IX Mivec head?

I know that many have built thier engines with the 4G64 block with the evo VIII head and some of us 3G'ers have gone that route so by asking the people who are much more well informed with these builds i hope i can leech some info.

Note that the plan is for a 3G eclipse.

Im curious if some of you can give me some insight about swapping a MIVEC head on my 3g Eclipse. What are the extra things I would need to be able to make MIVEC operational?

I know i will need the XI ecu so far...
And that MIVEC controls the intake cam by oil pressure.
Is the evo VIII block the same as the IX block?
also is MIVEC just in the cylinder head and ecu and has nothing to do with the bottom end?

Is it possible to have the IX head run with MIVEC non-operational and have it run like it would like the VIII combo?
i hope to get as much info as i can from you guys
thanks in advance

the piston rings on the 9 are slightly revised. teh mivec is only in the head and ecu. As far as the head working without the mivec, im not sure about that.

is there any new oil lines that need to be run to the head?

i was just referred to this quote on another thread

Mivec requires drilling and tapping of the block for oil source etc. Its not a drop the head on and go swap. It will need prepped for a IX head.

You would be much better off to grab our STGII SB and have us do the required work for the mivec head.
according to him then that the the VIII and IX blocks are different due to the head needing an oil source.

typically people that change to MIVEC... have to have the Evo 9 block, head, and ecu ... The block is setup differently on the evo 9 than the 8's..

If I was you.. I would just run the Evo 8 head and call it a day.. so you don't have to deal with all of the extra fiddling and hassle..

just my opinion

hasn't some people swapped the evo ix block for the 4g64 in thier MIVEC evo IX?
what block prepping needs to be done to the block for provide oil pressure for the intake cam actuator?
someone told me that maybe tapping of the oil filter housing rather then the block itself.

Yes, it has been done. Mynes Performance has a Evo IX with a 4G64 bottom end.

alright, so at least there is someone who has done it. thanks SeanC.
Oil pressure comes from the block to the Mivec actuator in the cam. I was told to tap of the block but to make sure the feed is exactly where it is located on the 9 block.
Oil pressure's "centrifugal forces" in high rpm, at 4500 on the evo IX, forces oil in the head and through a tiny clutch in the cam gear to advance the timing for MIVEC. Does anyone have any idea at what pressure, PSI, is need to advance?

This info is from someone who has succesfully done the swap.
