MR console on 5spd shifter: making the shift boot look like it fits

I noticed many people like me are annoyed by the fitment of the MR console's boot on the 5spd shifter. But I don't like the look of the GSR/RS console. The biggest problem is the boot slides up and down the shifter when you go from 1st to 2nd, etc. so its clear it doesn't fit. So heres a way to make the shift boot look decent.

Materials: double sided tape

1. Undo the button on the boot.
2. put a small piece of double sided tape on the front of the silver bulb part. Put it low on the metal so you can't see it when the boot is done up.
3. put a small piece of double sided tape on the back of the silver bulb part. Again, put it low.
4. do up the button on the boot.
5. firmly press the front and back of the boot on to the double sided tape.

Results:

Neutral

1st

2nd

3rd

4th

5th

reverse

Its not perfect but at least it takes a keen eye to notice somethings not right. And don't mind my crooked shift knob.

Looks ok, better than having it slide up and down and look like garbage. Looks best as a simple temperary fix until a new shift boot is made

I'm actually probably going to put a short shifter in it. And generally the metal bulb part on most short shifters is large enough to allow for the stock shift boot to mount securely. Personally I like the way the MR shift boot mounts securely on the shifter itself vs kinda floating on top of that bulb (stock 5spd boot). You probably already guessed but I like to have my car look completely OEM.....but not perform like it.

Good to know about the short shifter and the 6 speed boot, I will be performing 5 speed swap and will now definently see how the boot fits compared to the oem shifter

Thata boy, stock appearing... but far from stock
