Talking HOW TO: Touch up your apex silver evo!

Hey everyone!

So recently I was looking at my car and noticed some spots that needed touching up and started to get a bit of surface rust. I knew I had to fix this ASAP.
The only problem. I moved to Michigan and my closest mitsu dealer is about 30 miles away.
I went with the idea for autozone touchup.
Now as alot of you probably know, autozone doesn't carry the color for our cars. But i figured I would look for something close to get me by until I was near mitsu again.
I came across a SUBARU touch up paint. I know. Subaru, haha. Well I used it. and believe me or not it is almost the exact match.

for those of you wondering, it is the paint under code SU01345 Quicksilver 262 SUBARU.

Here is a link to a crappy cell phone pic of it. you cant even see where is was done from a foot away in person.

Yea but if you are careful then it looks okay. Sure beats leaving a chip mark unprotected and letting it rust. If anything get the marker and use the clear side on chips so that they don't rust.

I personally have used www.automotivetouchup.com with their paint pens and had good luck. Just fill in the chips with the paint pen about 3 times. Then sand down the high spots with 5000 grit sandpaper. Then use some clear and let it cure. Again use the 5000 grit and then polish it out with a rubbing compound and you wouldn't even be able to tell where the chips were.

It's a little secret that body shops won't tell you when you take your car in to get rock chips filled. Sometimes they won't paint the whole panel, just touch-up paint it and then re-clear it. It looks flawless if done right though. Also don't worry about using sandpaper on the paint, 5000 grit will only sand down the high spots and won't damage the good paint. It would take you years to get through the clear with 5000 grit. Hopefully this was helpful.

This thread would be great with pictures of hood or bumper getting sandpaper taking to it instead links. You'd be suprised how visual how to threads become a hit with visual aides, while other go bust and get swallowed up by evom. Good job by the way guys.
