We still anticipate a backorder on the Nisei FMIC for another 60 days or longer.
However, the engineers at Nisei have been working hard on pushing the limits of intercooling technology in the Evo market and are soon introducing a new line of products by the name of Nisei Competition Series.
The release date for it is within 4 weeks. If you thought the original Nisei FMIC was good, wait until you see this one.

Unless the price is different I dont see a reason to backorder the current FMIC.
I will be purchasing a FMIC in the next 60 days. I have yet to selet the FMIC I will purchase.

Your new race IC would have to be the "end all, be all" of intercoolers to demand an increased $200 premium though... have to be damned impressive!

From what I remember Buschur Racing's race FMIC was going for high $800's and according to him they were flying off the shelves. The $695 Nisei street FMIC stacked up against his flagship intercooler with no problems. He himself even said it's a good product. The Nisei Competition FMIC is significantly better than the street intercooler and will become the measuring stick for everyone looking at intercoolers.
To answer Zeus' question. We have a Nisei Competition FMIC on a customer's car that has done some testing using his AEM EMS datalogger. We allowed him to test the Competition FMIC up against a street version we lent to him, in addition to his own testing of his BR Deluxe. When the Nisei Street FMIC's temps above ambient were in the double digits, the Competition FMIC was yielding temps in the single digits above ambient. He said he immediately noticed more throttle response and logged a pressure drop half of what the street FMIC was doing. I dont want to show the exact data until we do our own testing with the MoTeC, but the results were significantly better. This was on a GT3076R which would cause more pressure drop than that stock turbo do to air volume moving through the core. Nisei is in pursuit of creating the perfect intercooler for the Evo and their knowledge of the subject is overwhelming. I've picked their brains for a couple years now and I know a lot, but i dont even scratch the surface compared to them. Nisei always stands behind their claims and products.
Some more details:
Like the Nisei Street FMIC, the end-tanks are also cast but this time they incorporate a 2.5" inlet and a 3" outlet and include 3" > 2.5" transition hoses to mate up with the stock intercooler piping or the Nisei Intercooler Pipe Kit. As always Nisei is committed to safety and retains use of the front bumper support in this model as well. This intercooler is a testament to what i've said for years now: Size isn't the only thing that matters in intercooling. The Competition FMIC is only 4mm thicker but has a completely different fin configuration internally and externally that cools more and has less pressure drop. You won't find this fin configuration on any intercooler on the market today as it is a design only available to Nisei Engineering.
The ETA for this intercooler is 3 - 5 weeks as the lead time on the batch of end tanks has been extended for 2 weeks past the original date. In addition, while Nisei has been extremely busy with the new FMIC, they've also been hard at work on the upcoming Nisei turbo kit which will incorporate many new innovations not seen in the evo world.
I'll post more details soon!
