Body Modifications Worth it?
i like the way the car looks, but something lil like tails and headlights also a lip i dont think is bad, but if your talking a whole body kit then no i dont like nore will i try doing something like that. by the way im 21.
I'm a racer. Not a pimp, not a baller, not a ricer . . . a racer. So my $$$$$ is on performance. Everything I do to my car is in the name of making it more fun to drive. Which scenario would you rather be in:
#1 - you have it custom painted, lowered, rolling on 18s or 19s, JDM bumpers and Euro badges, blacked out this and that with a carbon fiber everything and a color matched custom interior with a playstation and xbox hooked up to your in-dash dvd player with subs that will crush your skull. You pick up your girlfriend and she says, "Damn, that's a hot car. Nice!"
#2 - you have a 500hp sleeper that looks like a stock EVO from the outside. Some coilovers, sway bars, wider wheels and tires for better handling. It can corner so hard that girlfriend falls over into your lap if she's not wearing her seatbelt. You pick up your girlfriend and she says, "Oh, nice EVO. Show me what it can do."
#2 pulls up next to #1 at a stoplight. They roll down their window and give eachother a nod.
#1 thinks "Ha, look at that stock POS. I'll show him what I got"
# 2 thinks "Wow, that thing looks fast. Should I go for it?"
They give eachother a friendly rev and #1 thinks "Hmmm. . . That car sounds different than mine." The light turns green and #2 destroys #1. #1's girlfriend slaps him and yells at him for racing and for getting embarassed. #2's girlfriend says "Damn, you wasted that fool. You're so awesome. I'm gonna give you something extra special tonight". #1's ego is toast, #2's ego is boosted.
Now it is up you each of you to decide. Who do you want to be. I've already made up my mind. See you at the red light.

Well, personally, my body mods are going to be tasteful and minor...I already have alot of go (see my mods below) and I'm gonna relax on that for now... the only body enhancing things on my car are my tein springs. No stickers, nothing. I'm gonna order a do-luck lip tomorrow though, that will be the only thing (its an excuse because my car is in the body shop anyway for a small fender bender). I am happy with the stock rims 100%. I mean c'mon, my damn evo is Yellow! It stands out enough for me
The lip i'll order tomorrow, is a far strech for me...I like it tasteful. When I was 17 I had a civic all riced out, but my taste has come along way as well. And when I was 17, it was 1997 (one of the years of "rice") I'm 24 now, with a damn evo...your taste has to mature with your car choice I guess...thats my outlook

I like body modifications
Do you really wanna drive an EVO that looks like 90% of the other ones? I don't. I also NEED a body kit. My EVO is a DD and it's just getting torn apart from the highway. I need to find me a cheap car to drive to work and back.
People will call your car rice either way so you might as well just do what you want to it. Just don't go throwing Greddy stickers on it when you don't have anything Greddy in your car
I'm 22.

It's pretty amazing to see a 50/50 perfect split with this many votes! I voted yes, but only very small things. I do not like aftermarket spoilers or body kits. I am going to do AT MOST an APR splitter, EvoDave headlights, Evo VII tails, Volk CE28Ns, and a Vishnu diffuser

Anyways I think I made up my mind. I would much rather save for the new vishnu GT3071R kit first before doing any more body mods..
27, I like the evo the way it came from the factory, the only mod I did was put on MR tail-lights because I can't stand the chrome ones it came with from the factory. That's the only appearance mod for my car, maybe an ecu flash someday.
<and I never went through a "ricer phase".
YMMV,

I think body mods are worth it. I've done most of the engine upgrades besides a turbo. At some point IMO you gotta call it quits on the engine mods.... they seem to never end. So if the idea of cosmetic upgrades is on your mind the slightest bit, figure out a stopping point on your performance upgrades for when you think you'll be satisfied with the speed you desire. Besides it doesn't hurt to look at something different on an evo when you see 5 of them parked next to each other at the local meet.
jesus some of you guys are young, at 18 i though i was youngest evo 8 owner ever lol but you guys are one step ahead at 16!!! but i suppose i am in the uk so beeing 18 with an evo here is something no one belives lol
wow, old thread... The one thing I want to know is, was anyone satisfied with the power of the evo from the factory? Personally, the car was fast enough for me, just needed some suspension work, and a lot of body mods. Nothing crazy, but you can do lots of work, and keep it looking clean.
