whether to put the sub in or not.......

i just recently got a hold of one kicker 10" L7 w/ a ported box only because i could not have passed up such a good deal. I never really intended on getting a system in my evo because of weight issues. Im having a hard time on deciding whether to put it in and sacrifice some wieght or sell it and spend my money on something else. Than again, i wouldnt mind listening to something louder than my exhaust. For those of you who have a system in their trunk.....does it realy wiegh you down a lot? I am 50/50 on this so any kind of feedback would really help. thanks.

I say go for it! One 10 isn't going to make that much of a difference anyhow, weight-wise, and it'll sound nice (bass always sounds beautiful to me). haha Besides, it's not like you're going with some crazy complicated custom setup, so you can always just remove the amp/box when you go to track your car. I have one 12 in a ported box, btw.

well mine doesnt count, i have 2 12's in a ported box and an amp that weights around 20 lbs, by itself, but yeah its slows me down quiet a bit. I can definitly feel more power when the system is out. another thing you have to consider is rattles, on my first car (my jeep) i didnt have any rattles, then i put my system in and omg i found rattles i didnt even know could exist. My rear wiper rattled! so yeah if i were u i wouldnt, not because of the weight but because of rattles. my 2C

I have a box in the back weighing 60lbs+. It has two amps one running my front components and one running my 12" sub in the box. I remove the box for track events, but it's a pain to do. I like bass, and most of the time I'm not racing or planning on it. However, if I had it to do over again, I would have just upgraded the six speakers in the car and used one 4 channel amp to run those. I would have saved some money and weight.

I'm not a big "sound" guy...like the sound of the engine, turbo, and wind...but that's just me. I'd rather put money into the engine and save the weight. I vote keep them out!

^^ I agree. One 10" isn't gonna make that much difference - just mount the box in such a way that you can easily remove it if you want. Don't forget to dynomat the trunk lid unless you really like rattles back there - I have 4 layers of Dynomat on my deck lid of my Evo!

In order to make room for hauling my new child's necessities, I recently had to remove my "crazy complicated custom setup": a single 15" Memphis Mojo subwoofer set in a custom box that occupied the entire lower 1/2 of my trunk (spare tire, jack, etc., were removed to make room for the system.) Entire sound system added at least 90+# to my Evo.

Personally, I thought my Evo handled better with the sound system in it (closer to a 50-50 weight distribution, LOL, and the rear end felt 'planted' better / less likely to slide out.) Besides - it was fun to have a car that could 'blow the doors off' everybody else in more ways than one!

Bottom line is: it's your car & your lifestyle, so do what feels best to you.

Rebuild the box with 7 layer Bruch-wood , much lighter . but it does cost more than MDF wood
