I just got the front Kenwood eXcelon KFC-X178 6-3/4" 2-way Speakers and rear Kenwood KFC-1789ie 6-3/4" 3-way Speakers installed

I'm still waiting for my Alpine CDA-7897 headset to be released at the end of the month so i'm using stock reciever.

All i have to say is WOW My stereo is 300% better now with the new speakers. The rear isn't all that but, the front one's i've purchased is amazing. Now my car has a clear thump bass. I can't wait till my 60 Watt per channel comes in with alpine's version of digital sound processing .

By the way the stock speakers are paper and 15 Watts each but, my new one's is like 240Watt and 220 Watt rateing with triple the magnet size!

THe front door is more of a pain in the ***. I took advise from the board and got instruction from crutchfield with the adaptors "plug and play" for my speakers. Rear takes about 7 screw, 4 for speakers and 3 for plastic cover unscrewed from bottom. So easy everyone should change the rear speakers.

Just want to share with everyone.

If you guys are looking for SQ, then you have to go with components up front, period. I had Diamond Audio Hex series 6.5" ones in my G2 eslipse, and they sounded awesome. I hated to let them go, but it was that or no EVO. MB Quarts are good as well. These both will set you back about $400, but the quality is well worth it. Just my $.02

This actually would be a problem for me. I have a double din radio right now that i love and i want to put it into my next car. But the evo is only a single din setup. Shiznit, gotta figure something out.

The japanese GSR has 2-dins. I think you can convert it but unless you live in japan I have no ideal where you would buy it.

Gtr , did you use the stock speaker wiring? Would it have been better to get 2 way Kenwoods all the way around?

Did you keep the stock tweeters?,, and if not what would be a good pair for replacement?

How much did you have to spend for these speakers? And how easy is it to hook up? I want to do it myself, but Im not very experienced at all. I can take screws out and hook up the conections thou. LoL.....

Thanks.!

Yes stock speaker wiring. "much easier that way plug and play"

For speaker you really want a large range of frequency response. My kenwook X178 are awesome get 22-40 highs and lows and my 3 way for the rear is like 30-35. I orginally wanted the rear to provide a flat low bass and front to have good high.

I think i should of gone with high all the way around and a sub. Perhaps 4 X178 or infiniti Kappa which are pretty high frequency.

Rear take 3 screw from inside trunk and 4 on top of speakers. If you get an adaptor just plug it in. Front are more trickly taking off the doors.

Check out my mods and price for your self to get an idea on pricing. PM me if you need anything else. I've done a little research and just a newbie after i check out the facory speakers so many here knows alot more than me.

I was also wondering if you could use 6 /34 woofers in the back and run them off the head unit? I think Rockford makes some, crutchfield had them on thier web site.

Im just not sure of running my amp, if i did wouldnt I have to change the head unit for a newer one?

Thanks

I had a nice system installed in my Blue EVO 8. See pics listed at:

http://my.starstream.net/qwkgsx (there may be some pics of my drag car as well)

System consists of:

Eclipse 8300 Head unit/DVD player/5.1 Dolby Surround Sound
Eclipse 8 Disc CD Changer
SAVV TV tuner
Quart Separates up front
Quart Co-ax "separates" in the rear
Clarion 5.1 Center channel custom mounted in the center console
(2) JL Audio 12W3's in the trunkAudio Control EQS
Audip Control EQS
Audio Control Epicenter
Zapco 750 for the subs
Zapco 350X2 for the mids and highs, pushing altogether close to 2000 watts with both amps in their current configuration
Custom trunk enclosure, fiberglass etc.

Extras:

Turbo timer setup to work with alarm
Alarm rolls windows up/down, closes sunroof
Valentine One Radar detector
PS2 to be installed next week

I know it's a lotta weight added, but it's my daily driver

Shawn

GTR: you said that for the moment, while you are waiting for your receiver, you are using the stock unit? And it sounds a helluva lot better than with the paper speakers? I am not a huge stereo buff... but for $200 iinvestment, the speakers would be easy to buy and install for the added sound - especially bass. Everything looks stock when you are done ????? ...i don't want my car broken into in my hi-crime ghetto!!

RF does make a 6.75 sub that you could run of the deck, but they say they are for enclosed use only. i'm not sure how much of a difference it makes, but i had the same idea and would love to see someone try it. heck, if you had a small 2 channel amp to them, that might sound even better. GO FOR IT!
