I've got the same setup with an Alpine 9835 head unit and the adaptor. I have it wired to the glovebox to keep it out of sight. While the ipod can be controlled by the Alpine and the display (partially) shows on the Alpine screen, the conrols to search and access songs are a little awkward. You really need to have playlists well organized to take advantage of this setup.

alpine 9853 with the ipod connector running into my armrest. ipod plugs right in and you can controll everythign from the headunit, song artist ext scrolls across the screen. i think you can get an alpine headunit for under 250 thats compatable with the ipod hookup which is 100bucks extra (kca420 i think is the model number for the ipod thing)i feel like the last few days there have been several threads on this stuff so if youre looking for picturs try doing a search.. i have been way too lazy to bost pictures aha

besides the head unit you also need a iPod Interface Adapter in order for it to control it from the HU? When hooked up to the Ipod does it still use the analog wire from the speaker plugs to get sound or it gets sound from the sync cable on the bottom? I have my Alpine HU hookep up to my Ipod using the analog wires? that plugs into the Ipods speaker hole and the sound quality sucks when you turn it up...you can hear distortion

Yes, unless Alpine has something new out, you'll need the adaptor. Be careful because it will not work with all Alpine head units. Basically it uses the CD changer function controls to run the ipod. I don't think that you would be able to use a changer and an ipod with the same HU.

If you are going to run it the way you have descibed, you will have to determine the best volume level to use to eliminate the distortion. Voltage from the headphone out on the ipod may overdrive the input on the Alpine if the volume is set too high.

It comes from the synch cable. Headphone out is not used with the Alpine ipod adaptor. I'm assuming that the ipod sends line level voltage through the adaptor that the HU is much more happy with.

I have an ipod and turbo timer! Two useless items!

No pics of my install cause I am usingthe stock head unit with an ipod and FM transmitter. The sound quality is ok, better then my previous car. Though this christmas I am looking to purchase an aftermarket head unit to hard wire my ipod using the aux input. I dont want to spend another 100 bucks on a device that will do the same thing as a 10 buck cable.

Try the Camero/ Mustangs car forums you'll get more responses .
that was the stupidest response ive ever read.

if someone has an ipod, and an evo. and you have a headunit in your evo that has rca jacks, you can have a massive amount of music in your car, in a very very small package. don't be so ignorant and cocky.

i ahve an alpine deck with the alpine -ipod interface(99$) located in my glove box. Since the interface allows me to view/change songs via head unit, the ipod does not need to be accesed except when i need to add/remome songs. The interface also charges my ipod while hooked up. I will get pics later, b ut pretty much all good brand names have an ipod interface these days. late

I am fairly confident that the stock mitsu headunit does not have the necessary input / outputs to set up an ipod with rca cables. you would be able to use a wireless connector such as a belkin tuner but ive heard those and i wouldn't prefer something liket hat as opposed to a direct rca connection.
