i have the MTEC yellow highbeams in both my cars. love em. they are the ion coated bulbs. far away they emit a bright yellow light, but when you get closer they turn white. just like the PIAA bulbs. they are upped to 80w instead of the traditional 55w or 65w bulbs. well worth it if you have bad weather. i use them in the darned fog around here. it helps illuminate the reflectors on the road. i also have the same type of lights(yellow ION) for the fog lights.

would the changing of wattage to a higher one fry up the stock wiring/housing of the high beam?

Nah, if that was the case, Hella replacement up-wattage bulbs would come with warnings. It's not that much more current.

I've been running them in our bikes and cars for years with no problems, I just wouldn't really recommend them for low beams in the Evo. The up-wattage bulbs don't last as long, and the low-beam bulbs are such a pain to replace. (for me anyway) Plus the brighter light can be really offensive to oncomming traffic if you don't have your aim correct.
