That's really functional!

Let me take a guess. Take the mirror (ie. the glass) out of its housing. Install the V1 remote unit in the housing and scrape the coating* off the back of the mirror to correspond with the remote unit's location in the housing. Re-install the mirror (ie. the glass).

* A mirror is essentially glass with a back coating. It is the coating that gives it reflective properties.

I doubt that you would want to "scrape" the glass, some kind of etcher would be wiser, but yeah, it doesn't seem too hard. I saw some one that was selling aftermarket mirrors that were already done, but they were large, ugly, and oblong.

I was using the word "scrape" as a way to relay the idea in an easily understood manner. AFAIK, not everyone here is fluent in English.

I understand where you are coming from; I get the feeling that a good chunk of the miscreants here haven’t passed the 6th grade. I just wanted to point out that there are other ways to get the foil off without scratching the glass, incase someone might try it.

That is a BMW e36 rear view mirror. Some guy was modifying these for the BMW guys. I first saw these in '98 I think. If you go on the BMW forums and do a search, I'm sure you could find some contact info on him.

I wouldn’t say someone behind you could easily see it. Size of it, distance of car behind you, other things blocking it's view (spoiler or what not), etc. They'd have to almost be looking for it to see it there.

I've seen a few people make their own setups from scratch, but as said before people offer the service.

I run the remote location display from Valentine down by the right of the steering wheel on a little piece of the dash surface. This setup keeps all lights out of view from those behind you if that's what you're interested in.
