That clear plastic stuff.....

Does anyone know the name of the clear plastic stuff that you put on your car where the paint is most likely to be chipped? (e.g. nose and behind the wheels) Any info would be appreciated including the name of the stuff, where I can get it, or people’s experiences with it.

thanks - Joe

I have it on my car. Bought it off a guy on ebay for ~100 bucks. The 3M ones are way more expensive IIRC.

Costs between200-300 bucks to have it professionally installed. You can do it yourself but it is pretty hard to do IMHO to get it looking real nice.

I dont like the way its really hard to get wash the bugs off mine. Its like they become ingrained in it. When clean, you have to get up to a few feet away to tell its there.

Unless you do a lot of driving on roads where your bumper will get chipped, its not worth it IMHO.

I have the 3m one on mine. I paid 125 on ebay and 300 to get it installed. It is nice. I has saved me a small fortune in paint.

I got mine for about $750, entire front bumper and part of the quarter panel, on the hood it's further back than the one TonyMS has, it goes all the way to the end of the hood vent, and also two pieces for the back of the side mirrors. Mine is 3M also, it probably cost a bit more than what one could've gotten but I live in a small town and there isn't much choice around, but at least I get lifetime warranty on both the material and labor.

I have the mirrors, hood, full bumper, and the front of the fenders. I didn't like the idea of the film going that far back. Mine was $575 installed with the 3m stuff. My installer gave me a break on install price he was really cool. Check out www.xpel.com that is what my guy used to make the kit. He had the whole setup with a big cutter that looked like one of those plotters they use to draw building plans only with blades.

we have had a much easier time getting the bugs off of our clear bras than the paint.

I'm looking at going with venture shield. VERY expensive protectant, but from what I can tell the premium in paint chip protection.
