Wingless trunk question, what to do?

Ok, I'm going to try and explain this as good as i can.
I went from my evo trunk to a wingless Lancer ES trunk.

The bars that hold the trunk open are very strong and seem to push the trunk up a little even when its closed. I guess this due to the fact that the wing is no longer there (nor is the added weight).

What have people done to these bars to stop them from having so much force. When i pop the trunk open from inside the car it like flies up so quickly to the point where it looks like its going to break something.

Any question please ask.

Thanks!

HAHA!!! I had my friend get out first....and put his hand on it as I pulled the lever from inside to keep it from popping open just like you are describing........Seriously, I now get out of my car and open it with the key and put my hand on it to keep it from spazzing open!

So you know exactly what im talking about. That thing flies open! and it seems as if its also keeping the trunk from sitting completely flush when closed. Like i can apply a litle pressure to the top of the trunk and it will close the gap a little bit between the trunk and the rear quarter panel. Is there anyway to make it so those things dont have as much force?

i took both out.. but now it wont stay open cuz there is no force keeping it up.. try getting some trunk dampers for the lancer.. it might take a little of modding to make it work right.

How exactly would i remove the bars, i assume you guys mean the ones going horizontal in the trunk, but they are in there pretty well. It seems like id have to pretty much bend steel to take one or both out.

You go to a salvage yard and take the ES Lancer bars. Simple.

I had this exact problem with my CF trunk.. Taking one bar out doesnt work cause then pressure is on one side and tilts the trunk so it fits like crap. you have to get trunk shocks. Heres a thread I made about the set I got. has some pics and I give a little review.

yeah its pretty hard taking them out.. what i did was stuck a long screwdriver in between where bar attaches to the car.. pryed it out.. and had someone hold it from popping me in the face

and yes.. I tried taking one out. pretty easy to get out with a thick screwdriver or breaker bar.... but then trunk didnt sit right.. Putting it back in was very hard. needed two people and many tools. LOL

Both bars out works.... the trunk just wont stay open. I had my trunk set up like this for all of last summer. It got very annoying so I invested in the redline tuning shocks. I love them.

Hey thanks for the great info. So for now i guess they can be just taken out huh? I rarely use the trunk space so i figure maybe just take the bars out. Ill try and get a big breaker bar and hope that one doesn't damage anything, or me. Thanks!

Any hints or tips on trying to pry this thing out?

Thanks again guys.
