Help with painting VIII taillights

I've searched for while now and still don't know what to do.
I want to paint my VIII tails like the VIII MR's. Black with the amber turnsignal.
All I keep reading is how it's so hard to do. You have to dremmel the plastic apart on the 03's because its molded together.
Is there anyway to do it other than a dremmel? I know Dave isn't going to give up his secret. Who else knows a good way?
I have another set so I don't have to worry about driving the car. I just don't feel like spending $200 to send it to Dave if I can do it myself. I already know what paint I need.

DIYers help a brother out with some insight...

Thanks in Advance

I painted my taillights myself. First thing I can tell you is you need a lot of patience if you want to do it right and not screw anything up. I used a heat gun and an exacto knife to cut the sealant between the black housing and the clear outer lense. Everyone that has seen them in person says they look great and it only cost me about $15 for the paint. They're flat black w/ a gunmetal signal. Good Luck.

I can paint them for you also. No amber though. Evo dave does the outer painting, I do the leds.

There is no good write up for this. The reason we dont give up the secrets is cause we have devoted alot of time to mking these parfect with no defects.

Its not easy, and incredibly easy to screw up. Dave wouldnt let me on his secrets either, he let me learn the hard way. After 2 sets I got it down. After about 15 sets I can now cut the tails, paint them and glue them back together in 1 1/2 hours.

Im all for the diy's, but sometimes we got to learn the hard way, or pay someone. I suggest pay someone, or buy the factory style. Glueing them back together and sealing them is another trick. That why we have lifetime warreties.

Yeah but everything I've read says that the tails on 03's aren't glued, they're bonded. So whats the truth? I have no problems with spending a day doing it, in the end it's worth it to me.
I realize everyone has an agenda when it comes to $ but I am a firm believer that if you can do something yourself there is no need to pay someone else to do it for you.

So can you bake them? What temp & How long?

hahahahahaha, that method is horrible. Plus you will get an awful looking look on the lense where the seam is. You will see black and white spots.

Please dont do it that way. There is only 2 ways to do this, a heatgun and a razor, or a dremal with great eyes.

I have taken apart all years, 03-07 evo and lancer. Its all the same. Welded plastic.
