Cleaning Enginebay Questions

I'm getting ready to clean my engine bay, is the air filter the only thing i need to cover up? Will the turbo be alright?
should i not use certain chemicals?

I just did mine last week...i covered the open air filter with a plastic bag...I used degreaser from auto magic and also their dressing after it all dried. I also let the car warm up and run while i was spraying it down. I also tried to avoid the top of the valve cover with direct water spray.....

I took my car to an auto detailer shop to get a quick engine rinse one time and thats what they did. They covered up my filter with a bag and sprayed their solution on my block and sprayed it down. Yeah the turbo should be fine.

this is true: I know about methanol, so no comments about thinking I'd be some newb who'd actually wet the air filter.

I work as a detailer, have to do engines every day. for what you can get in the store simple green is pretty good as if it gets on your paint it will be fine as long as you rinse it off. At work i never cover anything, use a pressure water and high strength degreaser and a good scrubbing brush, and so far never had problems. though when i do mine just to be on the safe side cover your air filter, alarm and dont overspray water where you have electrical wireing. some people like to use a spray tire shine to dress the engine though dirt/dust will stick to it more after a few weeks and may need a quick wipe down
