I think people like MachV are jacking them up because their in high demand right now. I know Adam at Z1 Performance sells them at around 380 when he can get them. There are a few other places like Vivid that have them priced at a shade over $400.

I would just be patient and wait for a set on ebay but then again I think the demand for them has risen so it might be tough bidding/winning on a set at a good price now, but I havent check lately so Im a little unsure. I bought mines on ebay a month ago.

So to me it was worth the extra coin to get them ASAP. no one is forcing you to buy them.

For $40, I sent my Evo 8 tail lights to an Auto Parts here in San Diego to be coated smoke. I'll pick them up monday. I'll post some pic as soon as I got them. Don't want to spend too much on those Evo 7 tail lights.
