Patrick B.'s Evo 9 Update............FINALLY LOL!

Well it's been a while since i've posted any new changes to my Evo.

Some of you may know of it and some newer members may not but it's basically my strip/street 2006 WW Evo 9 RS.

It's completely NHRA legal to 8.50 w/ all the safety equipment needed while still having all the stock interior (when not racing), dash, heater/AC, glass, etc.

There are some light-weight mods done to it mainly the AMS/Willwood small front brakes to fit some 15" drag slicks, no crash beams, other small items.

The car last year weighed 3030 with me in it and 1/4 tank of E85 fuel.

Here are a couple threads from this year's racing so far:

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/dr...ss-2011-a.html

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/dr...re-9s-lol.html

Cliff Notes (best ET = 9.825 fastest MPH = 142.735)

So here we are now.

I decided that it was time to make some changes that could be done with the rest of the guys plugging away at the rest of the daily work.

And boy was it a good decision as when i pulled the head off the car i could see that the HG was compromised in a few spots but the comp & leakdown tests recently shown great results 170-175 across and 3-5% leeakdown lol

So in come some new parts to hopefully make some significant changes:

- FFTEC fully ported and polished head w/ Supertech 0.5mm oversized valves, 5 angle valve job, new valve guides, etc, Kiggly beehive springs, Kiggly HLA

- FFTEC V2 SMIM

- AWD Motorsports aluminum D/S & Torque Solutions bushings

- Half sized Koyo radiator w/ -12 AN fittings

- Car will be going back on an AEM and will get a brand new SPARKTECH PRO IGNITION SYSTEM

- Picked up some M&H 24.5" slicks to test vs the MT 26" ET Drags

- Possibly picking up PTE 6765 but maybe later this winter when we have time to build a manifold and upgrade the ICP'ing as well as it's sitting in a box waiting to be cut and welded...............

Anyway that's enough typing on to the pics (some pics will be added when they are being fab'd and /or arrive from shipping)

D/S:

M&H 24.5" Drag slicks:

Stock head removed:

Glad to see it going again.. I wouldnt suggest Copper O-rings in the block and that might be the reason you had headgasket issues.. I have run 49psi thru non oringed for and 30+ low 9 second passes and never lost the gasket.. Consider fixing that before you have future issues.. Good luck!!!

Nice upgrades Pat!

I've had an oringed block for the past two years. It wasn't an option I selected but have dealt with it so far. Mike, can you just leave the copper out or does it have to be filled? Im tired of oringing it every time I have the head off.

You need to fill it.. orings are a headache in the block if you ever have an issue and have to redo them..

I'm getting pretty fast at them but I'm tired of doing it when I know its not needed. When the engine is out this winter Ill look into having them filled. I'm assuming it needs to be welded and decked.

Sorry for the OT Pat.

Thanks for posting up fellas i appreciate any and all comments!

Mike - I know exactly what you're talking about as i just re-did the o-rings myself the other day and it was a bit of a PITA but for right now i would like to get back out and may address the o-rings when i put together another block.

At first i read your most recent post and thought you meant to fill the block lol!

The long block had not been opened since late 2007 and back then i wasn't as knowledgable so i thought i't be a good idea to o-ring it.................maybe i should have done the head similar to what others do or not at all but for now i have to stick with it.

Dan - Yes to all your ?'s

Honestly i just didn't have the funds to port the head back then and from what i did know was that they flowed fairly well for what my set-up was so i gambled and it worked out but i knew there was some HP hidden away in there hopefully that comes true.

No secrets really just a lot of time invested and money spent of trying a few different things that have and have not worked out.

Feel free to pm me so we can discuss things more if you'd like!

That kinda freaks me out!

I'd feel much more comfortable the way Matt mentioned.

For the sake of discussion what material was the o-ring that got inserted and then decked
