I thought I'd share my experience with this product after seeing this done with the Evo X: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...installed.html

Reason doing this: Extremely faded Momo looking for Challenge

I can't say I've sewed anything in the past 5-6 yrs, but have done sewing in jr high, btw I got a B- and B cooking .

Video How to:

On a scale to 0 - 10. 10 being toughest I'd say 1.5. Whats my skill set you ask I've done a few installs (basically bolt-on with no help).
0 = Brake pads/Oil Change (35min - 45min)
1-3 = InjectorsWire AFR/Installing IC, radiator (50min -1.5 hr)
(Alcantra install- 2.5- 3hr)
5 = Coilover install (3hr)
7 = Turbo install (4.5hr)
10 = Transfercase (6hr)
*so something extreme for me would be cam/spring install - 15 to 18hrs.

This really requires patience and boy you need plenty of it. This is not really sewing, this is extremely similar to tracing as in drawing. Meaning you don't have to worry about thread on fabric being straight. ITS Pre-THREAD.
.5 hrs: pre/adjusting
2.0 hrs: stitching/pinching/adjusting/worrying

I bet this would look better on a evo 9 steering wheel. Much darker accents.

I was thinking of doing the same-my steering wheel is still structurally sound; why not just wrap it- its not like its permanent. This is very good for those autox or daily drivers who eat constantly in their evos. As you already know alcantara is superior in feel to leather, the grip and feel is amazing( it sort of feels like brand new finely smooth garden gloves- you know the "leatherly-soft ones" with prestine grip).

Thanks. it does look intimidating but asure you its quick to do- more than a 3/4 of the stitching on the steering wheel; you skip. In doing so, you create the unique patern on the steering wheel. Cool stuff.

Looks nice. I have a wheel that is starting to peel on the thumb pad so I'm going to have to take it all off or have a lump always poking up in that spot. This is what I was planning to do once I get a few bucks set aside. http://www.redlinegoods.com/Evo8shiftboot.php

I like that it covers the entire surface like the stock cover and that you can customize it to whatever you want. Still more expensive than what you got which looks a ton better than having a wheel all worn.

Great job! I hope I can have the patience to do as well as you when I get mine.

you also have to take the whole steering wheel apart down to the metal with the redline. this is just a cover. the price point is spot on with this one and it really does blend with my evo seats well.

Just finished doing my steering wheel. What a pain in the a*se! If the op can do it in 2hrs of sewing he must be a sewing genius. Just spent 6 hours on mine! Looks good though.
I put a redline one on an old volvo I had a few years ago and it was much easier. The problem with this alcantara one is the thread they supply. The redline one I got had a waxy string like thread, this one had a nylon sewing thread, just a bit thicker than cotton (but heaps stronger). That stuff just wants to tie itself into knots, I spent more time undoing the knots than actually sewing. Glad it's done now but I don't know if I'd be rushing to do the job again.

I have the redline cover in mine, you don't have to take the wheel apart to the metal, you put it on right over the old part.
