headlight restoration

headlight restoration

Hi I am restoring my headlights using g the sanding method. I will wetsand 800 1000 1500 2000 then use meguirs PlasticX. My question is am I suppose to spray a clear coatbover it? Can I use regular automotive umrustoleum clear?

I wouldn't, they make a wax specifically designed for headlights. Something like this

I think you would be an absolute fool to do anything other than an OEM factory quality activated urethane based clearcoat. I personally would suggest sikkens, or dupont. Urethane activated clears are designed to give exterior body parts years of UV protection.

You aren't going to get anything good that comes from a shake-up and spray can.

Ive used different products in different headlights and the best so far are the Sylvania kits. Last for years and 20$ to boot.

I had my headlights done by a buddy who owns a body shop about 2 years ago. Lights still looks brand new. He sanded them and used some type of good clear and polished them.
