Remote Start + Evo

Does anyone have a remote start system on their evo? I have the clifford matrix rsx 3.5 alarm system and am getting it installed this wednesday by an authorized clifford installer. He says he won't put the remote start on and that it is illegal anyways. I'm sure he's right, but, how hard would this be for me to add on once he is done the initial alarm install?

I have the same alarm on my car with a starter too. My friend installed it for me though, however there are some shops here in Virginia do it with the starter without any problems. You should try a different shop.

there is only one shop in town that is an authorized clifford installer...id rather them at least get the install of the actual alarm done correctly and then worry about the remote start later

I got the compustar alarm/starter in my evo. It is designed specifically for manual transmision cars. The car stays running when you turn off the key and shuts off after you open and close the drivers door (ie get out). This makes it impossible to leave the car in gear and acidentally starting it in this state. With other starter systems I think you can wire up a switch to the gear linkage to only allow starting while in neutral, achiving basically the same effect.

the clifford alarm i got has a built in turbo timer, so i'm already prepared to leave the car in neutral, i do it now anyways.

Alarm questions belong in the Show/shine forum. I'm moving this one there now.

b/c of the immobilizer chip on the car, dont you need to keep a key IN the car in order to use a remote start system?

It seems like a large sacrifice to me to disarm the immobilizer so you can remote start your car

you have to buy a separate box and get a programed key then cut the actual metal part of key so they cant open that box and use it. all you need is the programed base of key in the car.

One last bump...the alarm was installed today sans remote start like i expected. Now, has anyone installed a remote start on an evo with a DEI system and care to tell me the steps that need to be done to install it? Would appriciate it.

I did on mine with my buddy who is a DEI certified installer as well. It's not a quick easy process. It takes a little while to do SAFELY and CORRECTLY. You need to build a neutral safety switch. Thats the key.

Right, but then, you no longer have the immobilizer as a safety feature. Instead, you get an alarm that chirps and pages you, but if thats to no avail, nothing else is stopping them from driving away with a car that they would otherwise not have been able to drive away in.

Right, but if the alarm is bypassed, there is no more disabler.

From what i understand, the factory one is very difficult to disable (hence the reason why remote start alarms NEED a key chip to work)
