BEISSEN's Build

Ok I bought the car less then 2 years ago and had got the bad side of the deal as far as when getting a used Evo its either good or bad mine was bad. When I got it, it needed to be retuned,Replace the Head Gasket and needed allot of small items like exhaust "had a weld on tip on stock pipes", had 3 holes in the UICP, Replace the Tial 50mm BOV with a stock one, get a new MBC and replace the wheels which were rota torques 18 x 8.5 with horriable offsets and had spacers in just the rear to sit flush with the front tires. Then fix allot of small things that were done poorly.
It was not long I had the tires replaced by a member on DCEVOCLUB doing a direct swap for stock GSR VIII Enkeis w/New tires. I had the car retuned for the cams and had the head gasket replaced within one month and swapped the BOV out and had all the holes taken care of and also ordered the HKS Hi-Power with a test pipe. At this point the car took a major transformation from here on out.

When I got the car here are the modifications

XS POWER 3.5 core FMIC with short route pipeing & Tial 50mm
Stock Intake with K&N Filter
Comp 272 Cams
ARP Head Studs
E-bay 3" Downpipe

Defi Mechanical Boost Gauge
AEM A/F Gauge
walboro 255 lph
ACT Clutch
Rota Torques 18 x 8.5
5mm Spacers in the rear
Extended wheel studs in the rear

I bought a set of IX SE BBS Wheels for summer time and the VIII Enkeis for winter and replaced allot of parts on the car to get back up to where I want it.

Ok well here is a Update and a small write up on my install of the FID Vacume Distrobution Block.

This was a very easy stright forward install and the Block is desined for the Evo VIII-IX a X is being made the bracket is whats I guess is vehicle specific but again there are those who will do as they want and mount in a differant location.

Parts and block.

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k2...1/IMG_0594.jpg
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k2...1/IMG_0595.jpg

Step 1. Remove the Two 14mm Bolts on the center section of the strut bar.

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k2...1/IMG_0599.jpg
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k2...1/IMG_0601.jpg

Step 2. Remove the 3 14mm nuts on the shock tower holding the strut bar on the passenger side to allow clearance for the plate to slide in place.

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k2...1/IMG_0602.jpg

Step 3. Assemble the block as needed with givin fittings I used Thread Tape to make a perfect seal. I had smaller vacume line so I think it was 3/16 so my socket was a 7/16 to tighten the fittings into the block.

Step 4. Install the FID Block.

Step 5. Lightly tighten the center bolts and then tighten the strut bolts all the way then finish with the center bar bolts.

Last Step Install vacume lines into the Block Useing one as a main source. I did not have a 1/2 line to use so I used the 3/16 from the manifold in the Picture its the first fitting on the passenger side.

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k2...1/IMG_0606.jpg
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k2...1/IMG_0614.jpg

Now for my install I just ran the hose where I had it "T" so I could run my Boost Gauge and read it and have a solid line there now and its on the block with the rest of the hoses.

Before
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k2...1/IMG_0597.jpg

After
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k2...1/IMG_0608.jpg

I have in my setup the BOV,Boost Controller Solinoid and the Boost Gauge all ran on the block with no more "T" fittings.

im trying its the little small things here and there lol. I am going to redo the Radiator brackets as well in the semi gloss black that the Manifold and o2 dump are done in to get that rusted look away.

Second you want to know how much that cost me for the brackets!!! ZEEEEEEEEEEEERO!!!!!!!!!! Carlos hooked it up to improve the blue bombers looks might beable to swing another set if your interested boss {thumbup}

I know you can help on the Mona Lisa I am going to look later but I have no choice now as I spent the money on all the parts already. I am only needing the 2 bolts for the o2 dump, 2 couplers 1x 3-3" and one 3-4" and 2x 3" t bolt clamps and 1x 4" t-clamp as I am going to be going SD and I just got the call that my Omni Power 4 bar MAP Sensor is in now. I just need to tune the car right now once all the other parts come in. I got Toxic fabs Cam Sensor Cover in today and its sexy lol.

The vacuum block is where all the vacuum fittings that are " T" off can go in one location so you don't have 7k "T" fittings all over. Its a nice way to clean the engine up.

I told him already lol he a friend of mine that's live real close.

Its new and also he loves the mona lisa, some think it wont perform well due to .25 smaller runners as I think the mona lisa has 1.5 this is 1.25 but im not sure but the mona lisa has mild steel flanges az where the FiD is 150% full stainless steel. If you look at most tubular manifolds they rust on the flanges over time so far this one has proven not to I saw one on a dd Evo with a 35r FiD kit.

sho669 Nov 17, 2010 08:29 PM

1.5 runners are probably a little big for a red anyways. More for a max HP type build, the 1.25 is perfect for the setup and should put a smile on your face!

I know, took my time talking to my tuner and builder and with the deal and offers from them I could not pass it up. I thank rock for his guidance as well as I bought more good parts then planned but it should be a monster on 93 and a beast on E85.

first thing is first i never bashed the FiD manifold i stated i wanted to see it installed period. Second the mona lisa uses 1.25 runners not 1.5 also if you look at any manifold thread ever posted i dont knock other companies mannies just be happy you have so many options to choose from and leave it at that. Second my personal mona will not rust on flanges Coating for the WIN.

Nice looking red op i remember when i used to have one never used it ;)

http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/q.../DSC_1284a.jpg

My question to you is why did you not get the fp race 3" turbo outlet pipe for better flow hands down you need to get one? Yes its a pain to install but worth it max flow. did you port your hotside?

Yes full port job on the turbo. I am going to have a custom 4" intake made and did not want rubberpipeing that's all.

I will get it later as I don't have the funds for cutting and beading the ETS licp to fit the race pipe.

RockmanX Dec 1, 2010 12:39 PM

you can make your own customer licp might be cheaper but the pipe is well worth it for flow purposes i had to get a custom ams licp that jms fabbed but working well also what size injectors you using and any headwork portingwise

Wow your still alive lol, I can't wait had to track the bolts down to fit the dump and got lucky one of the original owners pm'ed me and sent them free of charge.

4xforce Dec 2, 2010 07:42 AM

That's super cool. I still have mine and don't see any need for them so if that doesn't work out just text or pm me and I will hook you up. I would have sent them in the first place had I known for sure you needed them. I am considering a Red or BBK-b so your build is of interest to me. I would guess you would make a bit more on 93 than I did on e85. Should be exciting. Oh and I am very alive with e85!

I am good now with bolts as you see they are on there just need to bolt up to the DP. The E85 will turn this into monster mode lol I will easily break 500whp on E85 but on 93 compaired to your stock IX yeah I will make more but not red to red. iwould definitly get the Ported 84mm Red if you want to go kill mode lol.

4xforce Dec 2, 2010 08:08 AM

I was referring to the downpipe spring bolts we talked about. Anyhow I am subscribed and look forward to see how things turn out. E85 might lead you towards a built motor which I'm sure you know so be prepared.

I know what you meant lol, Thats why I said I had the bolts and if you look the springs and bolts are attached to the Dump in the pictures lol. Yeah E85 is a decesion I am going to make but as long as I keep the torque down I will be ok since the 6 speed supposedly has issues. I will send you a txt as soon as I am tuned on 93 monday.

LOL, Thanks hahaha. When I was about to leave they had your car rolling onto the dyno but said wait until tomorrow since he will be learning the software and your car with the ECU Flash program.

But the basic break down more will be added when I get all the pictures and video together was on my stock VIII turbo tune I made 329.3 whp and 281.7 ft/lbs at roughly 24 psi tappering to 19 by redline. The base tune with the New FiD Manifold, FIC 1050cc Inj, Omni Power 4 bar map sensor for SD setup at 20.5 psi peak I made 353.8whp and 291.0 ft/lbs so less boost and just a base pull made more power. The final numbers were at 27psi tappering to 24 psi it made 404.3 WHP and 345.7FT/LBS it had more in it but I wanted to stop. This was all on straight 93oct. I will add more later I am tired and need to rest for work tonight.

Here is the mods on the car now.

404.3 WHP 345.7 FT/LBS 27 psi tappering to 24 by redline. We are still tweaking the HKS EVC VI I just ordered the HKS Easy writer software which allows you to tune the EBC via Laptop.

Wouldn't a 3-port be a lot easier and less expensive? I'm not sure why you aren't just controlling boost with the tune?

No, im not a fan of Ecu controlled boost don't know why and the HKS EVC VI I like it and there's allot more it can do still learning it.

I used to use a $600 EBC with all the bells and whistles, but the 3-port allows much finer control of boost by RPM, gear, fluid temps, air temps, knock conditions, and more (thanks to tephra and mrfred). It spools quicker too. I liked my EBC too and it's still in my car to show boost, peak hold, simulated dyno graphs, mph, etc., except it no longer has the reigns to my turbo. Best of both worlds.

i guess because your keeping the tq low and protecting the tranny/block but that does not seem like a good gain to cost ratio i have to go back and look at your orginal numbers you had prior to installing all those goodies. Before you say it yes i know you have Tons tons more left in it but due to reasons you cant go higher

so orginal numbers were 329.3 WHP 281.7 WTQ. so basically for now 75whp gain and 64tq. wow kind of rough for money spent so far.

BlueEvo61106 Dec 8, 2010 08:22 AM

Josh nice numbers man! Can't wait to get back in a Evo. Subbed to your thread so keep the updates comin!

4xforce Dec 8, 2010 09:58 AM

Good job Beissen. Hopefully you can find some time to take care of that issue we spoke about. I really could not understand somebody not wanting to go ecu boost or at least a Tephra map with a manual controller. The electronic standalone boost controllers really don't offer anything over ecu boost and can be a bit tricky to dial in. I know it's just your thing bro. Just bustin your balls. Get some injectors on this biotch with some e85 and let it rip!

I have enough injector for E85 as I am looking for 450-475DD so I am ok there with 1050cc Inj. I will fix it this sunday and it will be good.

Here is the Video kinda fast but its a fast one I will make a better one later.

dont have to take anything under account i seen fp reds on stock block smash on pump but its all good its a improvement for money spent and i know he had some issues to correct to get it right so i know it will get alot better long as he is happy thats all that matters but i know also he does not want to screw over the MR tranny and stock block so with those factors in mind its a good starting point.

waiting for when those minor tuning issues are cleaned up to see it shine more. Good job boss

Good luck with it.

yeah your dyno dynamics dyno read really low, i think there is a 20whp difference in your dyno and a dynojet. You guys tuned my friend evo 9 and he dyno i think 309 something close in your dyno. Went to a dyno yet and he put down 328 something like that.

BEISSEN Dec 8, 2010 06:05 PM

The tranny is a worry mt block is not so much. But I will goto E85 next and see what happens.

keath Dec 9, 2010 05:01 AM

tranny??
you will be fine... i have been up around 500/440 for a long time now

How long you run the High torque with the 6 speed?

I got majority of the issues worked out the Dump caused the LICP not to fit corrrectly so I got that fixed and I need to still fine tune the EBC its almost there as I think next monday Iwill have the EBC fixed as I should have the easy Writer Software here today and I will drop it off tomarrow to Tuan my tuner and let himplay with it for the weekend to learn it lol. I think I am up there as far as Reds go, Ptuning did a GT3071R FiD Kit and it had water meth injection and only got 429.9whp and 377.X torque so for my red to make almost the same as a 30R I am satisfied and not to mention she pulls like a mother lol.

I have to disagree I am making more if I goto a Dyno Jet or Mustang I can gureentee this dyno reads real low and I am almost sure if you cam to dyno here you would loose a easy 100whp on it lol its been proven to may times so far. There is a supra that gets its work done here and was putting 605+ on a Mustang dyno and came to ptuning and only made 489 on a cool day so at 400 I am very happy.

Also want to get dyno at a dynojet to see the difference? i tell my friend to hook you up i think he harges 45 with afr and boost. Of course thats with his discount.

RockmanX Dec 10, 2010 12:08 PM

ok ill caulk it up to the dyno reading to low then ;)

Ptuning. Its cool I had a few friends come over. Im taking the turbo off tomorrow to remove the factory o2 gasket did not think about the center bridge and the dump so I have a small leak there. I need to get a 25psi wga to hold more boost up top lol.

Which actuator do you have? You shouldn't need the 25 psi one to run pump gas boost levels. The 18 psi one is plenty. I've run 30 psi to 7500 rpm on both the Red and Black with an 18 psi actuator and a higher flowing setup than you have (which lowers boost for a given boost setting). The 25 psi one is also likely to cause boost creep problems at your boost level.

I'd do a boost leak test and then make sure that the preload on the actuator is tight enough. If those check out, I'd next look to the boost controller.

Wahhh fairfax the popo real bad there. Also how much and I can do it sunday Morning.

Also rich im boosting 27psi and tapring to 24 if I boost 20 I hold 20 just fixed my leak as well.

RockmanX Dec 11, 2010 12:43 PM

I have the 25 psi wga on my black i just assumed get all the options possible when i bought it from force preformace port 25 wga. I would have gotten them to coat it if they did that at the time but did not. SO i got Carlos at TCC to do everything.
