Blizzaks installed...WHEELS RUINED!!!

What would you guys do, the installer is a reputable tire dealer and has offered to pay for a rent a car and send all four wheels out to be re-finished? They damaged every single wheel, either taking off the Advans or, installing the LM-22's. By the way, highly recommend the LM-22's they are great!!

Would you demand new rims or is that taking it to far, my car is 8 months old and I treat her like a little baby, no scratched to date on any wheel. Let me know your thoughts, and thanks !! Mostly scrathes, some pretty deep ones if you ask me.

If I were in your shoes I would let them refinish the wheels. Think about it, you can get them powdercoated any color you want and they will come out as good as new. Someone here had theirs powdercoated white and they looked awesome.

Make them buy you brand new ones at inflated prices from MachV.

Heh. Interesting, as today I had new Blizzak LM-25's installed on my MR's BBS wheels.

The dealer took forever and a day to swap the Advan's for them. About 2 1/2 hours. However, at least they did them right. After a LONG inspection, not even the slightest mar, except some small marks where the OEM balancing weights were taken off (the dealer used lead tape on the inside of the wheel itself when they rebalanced).

I would push for new wheels. I mean, rental? You're going to be stuck with a Mercury Tracer with bald tires until your wheels are back in. Could be a week. Could be two weeks. Do you really want that? I wouldn't. If there's deep scratches, they really can't do much to it, especially if they scarred the wheels themselves.

Just let them re-finish the wheels. If there are only scratches on them, then the integrity of the wheels will not be compromised. The place you took them to is nice enough to fix all of them AND give you a rental (you can beat on and save a couple of miles on the EVO). If you demand new ones they might tell you to F@CK yourself. Sucks it happened in the first place though.

I've seen refinished wheels and if the company they are sending them off to is any good you will not be able to tell a new wheel from a refinished wheel. I seen wheels that have terrible bends in them come back totally restored. IMO, I would just have them refinished. What did they do to the wheels to damage them so badly?

Each wheel has a line on the lip, practically all the way around the wheel where the paint is off, down to the primer. Pretty deep impressions. I spent almost 900 for new Blizzaks mounted and balanced, and feel the only way I'll be happy is to have new wheels.

Ouch man!

If they are offering to have the wheels refinished I would definitely take them up on that offer!

The ***-hats at the Discount Tire near my house scratched the hell out of my stock wheels and offered me a whopping $50 discount off my mounting and balancing.

That is sh1tty. Around here it cost about $125 or so a wheel to have one completely refinished depending on the damage.

Well, The tire company put in a claim to their insurance company and I got a check yesterday for like $1200.00. I'm kinda pissed because it's enough money to have the stock wheels refinished but, i really thought they should have replaced them.

Now my dilemma is, do i refinish the stock wheels and take the rest of the money and by another mod or, do I suck up the mad curb rash on my enkei's, keep them as winter wheels, and use the money to by new wheels for the summer? Something like the TDR wheels? What do you guys think I should do? Thanks

I'd recommend putting the money into a new set of "summer" wheels, and trying to fix the other ones at your leisure. There's a thread on here somewhere about how to touch up your wheels yourself.

thanks Greg, I'm leaning towards summer wheels also, now just need to pick a color and style that works for me. Leaning towards metallic black wheels with silver/chrome lip...
