Stupid question - mixing brake fluids?

My brake fluid is running in between max and min. Can i refill and mix the brake fluid with any Dot-4 brake fluids? I assume the factory brake fluid is the Dot-4.

Thanks for your advise.

not sure what factory is check your manual... you should try to stay with what they put in... if your low on fluid you most likely need brakes.. so check your brakes before you fill it... otherwise youll be cleaning up a mess if you fill it and then put new brakes on.. or an unhappy mechanic like me that has to clean the brake fluid off my floor because you didnt need fluid... saying you cant change your brakes...

I would not mix the factory DOT 4 with DOT 5. Use any DOT 4 brake fluid to top up if you still have factory fluid, preferably with the same or higher wet & dry boiling points.

FYI, you should flush and change brake fluid at least every 2 years....

just stick with the same dot number and call it a day, unless you want to spend some time doing a full fluid flush, replacement and brake bleeding service on your car. (not a very fun job)

DOT 5 BRAKE FLUID IS NOT COMPATABLE WITH 3/4 DO NOT MIX THEM.

It should say so right on the dot 5 package.
