my brakes binded up!!!

ok....heres the problem....i was drivin to school on the freeway a few weeks ago..i wasnt even touchin the brakes....and suddenly the car started to shake real bad and when i let off the car slowed down like i was hard on the brakes (yet my foot was no where near it) and i barely made it to an exit and pulled aside...then my car wouldnt go anywhere because my brakes were compleatly stuck to the rotors...so i got it towed to the dealer...it stayed there for about 3 days...they couldnt find anything wrong with it (im not suprised...since theres only about 10-15 evos in the KC area...) but the thing is that when they looked at it and tested it i guess the brakes loosend up on their own after sittin maybe a day.....so i drove it home....it was fine...then the next monday...i drove it to school again...then on my way home...i started to feel my pedal gettin really stiff....sure enough....they were about to bind up again...but luckily i barely made it home...so far...ive noticed that it only does it when i drive it on the freeway...and with even 30mins or so on city streets it does just fine....now i have a friend that has alittle more knowloge then i do and hes guessin its my master cylinders work of art....does anyone know of anything like this?? if so please help...im in the process of gettin new brakes anyways since the rotors r toasted....but it would suck if i have to get a new master too.....

Just a thought but you might check to make sure that when the brake pedal is released that there is some clearance where the pushrod goes into the master cylinder.

Hope this makes some sense. If the adjustment is off (tight), it will be just like you are applying a small amount of brake. Then while driving the heat that is building in the pads and rotors will make it gradually apply more brake.

Also if the brakes are dragging excessively it could be heating the brake fluid which will also apply more pressure to the system.

Good luck,
Bob

The calipers can be seizing.... I'd go have mitsu replace the caliper. Trying seeing if one rotor heated up real badly by checking to see if it's blued...If this is the case on one rotor then you know you have a bad caliper. I had a bad caliper on my TSX and it basically locked clamped. If one rotor doesnt look any more overheated than any other, I'd say it'd have to be your master cylinder.

i know atleast 1 of the rotors r really glossed up....it even has an imprint of the brake pad....i dont remember if there is 1 on the other calipers....but remember this seems to only occur when im on the freeway for about 10mins.....which is what i dont get....i kinda understand that if 1 of the calipers was rubbin and that heats everything up plus the brake fluid....then it would probably do it.....then if this is the problem....should i bring it back to the dealer?? cause i do have an excedy clutch....would that void the warrenty??

^^ You sir have a contaminated brake fluid in your brake system.

Check your brake fluid in your reservoir. It should be nice and slippery, not sticky.

Exedy clutch huh? How long ago? Wonder if your installer put the wrong fluid in the reservoir when he bled your clutch.

and i looked at all of them today...and yep, they're all glossed up, with imprints of the pad on them....so...anyone got a verdict?? maybe i should get a new master just to be safe so i dont burn up the new set of brakes when i get them??

I'm having this same problem now. Any resolution to your problems??

All 4 of mine stick....comes on after driving for a while, relaxes after sitting, when it happens the brake pedal is completely stiff (hard to press).

Dealership can't figure it out after 4 visits.

ur master cylinder is defective, atleast that was the case with mine. if u happen to have one of the evo shop manuels u can do the diagnostics on it...or u could try the (stealer) again..and tell them to do the master cylinder diagnostics...
