disabling ABS

my instructor has no AYC (EVO IV), but i'll ask him to do the demostrantion in my car
and see whether he gets it right.
ABS is good when you have unequal traction to the wheels when stopping. (ie. two wheels on dry tarmac and two on sand.) It can really help with keeping the car pointed in the right direction then.
Its also nice when doing a full on panic stop, and you will notice that cars with ABS generally have better stopping dist. than cars without. Dodge Viper for instance.
That said, I am not a huge fan of ABS. I started driving well before ABS came about and learned about threshold braking and cadence braking on slippery surfaces. If your ABS comes on, while you are on dry pavement, you're probably doing something wrong. I've also cussed ABS several times on ice because it decides you've stopped when you haven't and you have to start cadence breaking while it also starts cadence breaking and seems to take forever to get stopped.
Most pro racing series don't allow ABS and those guys seem to manage just fine.
