Brake Shudder Vanished

I've seen the high number of threads on brake shudder, and how many people have said it's more likely brake material build up rather than warping.

In either case, I've been trying to solve this one for a while - about 12 months ago, I replaced my rotors and pads. It vanished for about 5000km, (3000miles) but came back. I took it to a few places that had no clue, except to recommend a different brand or go slotted/drilled. I decided not to because it hasn't guaranteed resolution for a lot of people here.

Anyway, this morning, I had to brake from about 100km/h down to 30km/h. Usually a slow down like that would cause the worst of the shuddering... This morning, a perfectly smooth stop.

I tried to remember when the last time I experienced bad shuddering was, and what I've done since then. The answer to those two questions were, 3 weeks ago, and I replaced the tyre rod ends and cleaned my mag wheels.

Nothing there could really account for the vanishing brake shudder, unless you consider that I sprayed the rotors with brake dust cleaner before hosing them down.

If (when) it comes back, I'm going to try to wash the rotors again and see if it vanishes again. If it does, it's a simple and cheap "maintenance" issue to keep the brakes from shuddering. However, if anyone else has the problem and wants to try it, please post the results here.

Thanks!

Inconsistent "warped" rotor feeling is characteristic of uneven pad deposits.

It's worse sometimes and better on other occasions. A warped rotor is always warped and won't go away on it's own.

Uneven pad deposition occurs when the pads have been heated up, for instance after some spirited driving, and then the car comes to a complete stop with the pads pressed up against the rotor such as at a stoptech or stoplight. These instances occur without the driver even realizing.

Ah, so you're saying it's just coincidental? Damn.

My brake squeak is less pronounced now too. (off topic as well!)

I find running a performance track pad on the street will clean them up or keep them
