I don't have first hand experience with the EVO braking system (front or rear), but if the rear pads on the EVO are shaped like the ones pictured above YOU ABSOLUTLY NEED TO USE SHIMS WHEN INSTALLING THEM!!!

Countless cars use that style of brake pad for the rear and if you don't install a shim along with them they will squeal like crazy! There is no amount of "brake lube" that will help either. Ask me how I know

I just tackled this EXACT problem with my daily driver (Volvo). It's only a ~$10 fix too with the shims being available right through NAPA:

Brake Shims

Anyways, I have personally had no problems with Hawk pads and since it seems to be hit or miss around here, I am almost 99% sure that shims (whether they be stainless, fiber, etc.) will solve your problem

I was bedding mine in tonight, and once they got hot they squeaked like a @#$@#$. I saw that some people say they squeak only when they get hot.

Don't know if I was paranoid at all, but I also got a tiny "clunk" out of the car when backing out of a stall.

I have triple checked the pads/calipers for the pins and the springs as well as that the pads are seated properly. I know my tranny clunks itself, but the clunk seemed to come from the rear brakes.

Otherwise, they are quiet so far for normal driving.

the hawks squeek at low speed, at high speed and high temp theyre pretty quiet unless you have dtc series hawks, in which case you wouldn't be driving them on teh street.

the clunk is also norm for hawk pads... for some reason they make them too small or something. just means you need to use more brake disc quiet next time.

Great.. it's pretty darned quiet for me so far. I used plenty of the grease, I thought maybe it was too much and it was sliding Good to know that it's just the tiny bit of difference in size.

actually i don't know where people got the idea to use grease to install pads. brake disc quiet is a sealant type texture goo and dries like caulking so it sticks and after it dries it dampens vibrations that would cause noise.

grease doesn't stick... neither does it have proper vibration damping characteristics that insulation materials have.

i thought the hawk pads came with shims on the pads already so there is no need to use the stock ones? also, i see most people use copper anti-sieze on the pads, but i do have some of the disc brake quiet, so maybe i'll try that.

Those aren't shims, they are the backing on the brake pads. The shims come off and have an arrow cut into them. The stock pads also have this metal backing... plus those shims that you are supposed to transfer over.

Hawk sells their own, but it's like 65 for the set... I don't see a reason why you can't use the stock ones. Assuming your car is still stock, if they don't have 'em in there I'd ***** at the dealership.

Very true! Everytime I have my wheels off I am amazed at how little they wear yet not tear up the rotors.

I love my HP+ for the track. Very noisey but i havent seen an evo with agressive pads that isnt loud. Shoot even the stock pads make noise sometimes. Its called brembo squeal, im proud of the sound. It means i have some damn good brakes.

If you want the absoloute best way to stop that annoying high pitched squeaking sound, just go to NAPA, get a can of 10w30 synthetic motor oil, and pour it all over your calipers, pads, and rotors, thats the only surefire way to stop the squeaking.
