Hawk brake pads = garbage!

All:

I wasted my money on these pads. they have got to be the loudest squeeking pads I've ever used on any car I've ever owned. wtf?? If they get hot, they squeek like mad. I want to get the stock pads.. is there a place I can get them cheaper than the dealer?

Look into the project mu ns street pads. Great breaking power better than stock and hardly make any noise. I used to have ferodo pads, but since performance break pads squeak i went to less agressive pads. if you don't track your car you will be fine with street pads.

i have the hawk hps pads and only made noise a few times while i had them. i had it for about a half a year and no prob with them. and another reason i like them is because they give low dust.

I installed the Hawk HPS pads not too long ago and I like them. Good for the street with still a bit of bite to them. No squeaking and a lot less dust than the stockers. I just made sure I applied plenty of anti seize to any touching metal. When it's time to replace the pads again I'll probably stick with Hawks. Sorry they didn't work for you.

like they said, make sure you used the oem shims, plenty of anti seize, and make sure you break them in properly.

Most manufactures include the break in instructions on the box.

Title on this thread should be changed or removed because it is misleading.

You need to properly bed in your brakes before using them under normal driving conditions. This helps in them wearing evenly. I bedded mine in by doing a handful of 30-0 stops and a couple 45-0 stops. Everyone has different ways of breaking them in though.

It would help if you told us the compound you have. Some of the "race" compounds squeek, and there is nothing you can do about it. If you have the HPS which is a street compound you probably haven't bedded the pads in. I have them on my Mazda6 and they are just fine. Hawk even includes bedding instruction on the brake pad box! If you want more info go to Stoptech's website and read up.

I have to agree/disagree with everyone else here...

I installed HPS pads and bedded them in exactly as to the MFR suggestions on the box. For ~1000 miles they were quiet and worked very well. Shortly thereafter they began to squeek VERY loudly. This occured only when COLD, once warmed up they were fine. After another ~2000 miles this went away and they are virtually silent under all conditions now. There is a faint very high pitched squeek when braking, but I conceed that it's the fact that they are high performance pads.

Also, I find it humerous that you consider pads "garbage" without any regard to how well they perform.
