Are you going to be doing any road course?
I think Zeal function x would be really good.
If you are going to be on the street 90% of the time you might want to go with function xs for they are very mild set up. Spring rates are 7k front and 5k back.
You can get em from groupe-s for arount $2400 from them for the xs.
I think the zeal coilovers range from $2400-$4000 depending which model you go with.

Anyway, it's not the dampers alone that will give you hard ride. The dampers (shock) work together with the springs. You can have no damping at all and if you have rally stiff springs, then you're in for a teeth rattling ride. The best way to think about it, IMO, is that you need a spring for compliance so the wheel can move vertically and the dampers to keep the motion of the wheel in control. The force the coilover pushes on the car comes from the conbination of both, springs push proportional (or thereabouts) to how _far_ they've been compressed and dampers push proportional to how _fast_ they're being pushed.
Having said all that, you will find that most kits come with springs that match the dampers and that the dampers (or damping force/stroke velocity) are adjustable to a certain degree. Unless you really know what you're doing, stick with what springs come in a 'standard' kit.
IMO, I'd say that the Bilsteins for the MR are really very good. Good ride quality and works extremely well with the stock and other really sticky tyres.
There is an obsession with getting coilovers and so forth and Japanese companies have an obsession with making them specailly for racing purposes which means your kidneys will be a mush by the time you got from the install to your home. I've had a number of coilovers from ohlins to KYB and to be honest, you might end up disappointed with many in the market. Don't get me wrong, they're not trying to sell you rubbish, but you have to consider the type of road you're on vs. a race track and most importantly- what, when all is said and done, do you want to get out of it. There's a lot you can do with different camber angles, sway bars, tyre pressures and even tyres. Perhaps you should start there.

Type X is for 'hard' use.
Type Xs is for 'street' use.

The code for the springs end with a digit or two then a letter 'k'. This is the stiffness of the spring. 7k = 7kg/mm

a few more numbers then:
Tein type FLEX: 9/7
Ohlins Japan Flag-L: 15/10 - not for street use. really. drops the front by about 1.5" and the rear by about 1". hard as bastards. (they have a new model out now as well with different valve technology.
Ralliart (Bilstein): 12/9 - with helper springs
Ralliart (rally): 5/5.5 - softer than stock. Raises front and rear.
HKS Hipermax Pro Prf: 12/12
HKS Hipermax Pro: 12/10
HKS Hipermax II: 7/6
Zeal Super Function: 14/14
Zeal Function X: 9/7
Zeal Function Xs: 7/6
enough fun for one night. I'm going to bed.
