I'm looking to purchase winter wheels.

If I bought a 17 x 7 do I stay with a 40mm offest or drop to a 27mm offset?.

I'm thinking if I went with a 7" wheel, I would have to deduct 13mm to keep the face of the wheel from hitting the caliper.

Am I correct on this?

It depends on the spoke design AND offset. I remember tires.com had a couple of 17x7s that would fit but most wont.

Why go to all the trouble ? With stock sizes wheels and dedicated snows you will get around great. Not worth all the trouble to run smaller whels + tires.
