Binding / clunking when I turn the wheel left to right

I posted another thread below but it was kinda vague and pointed in the wrong direction....my car is an 06 with 12k miles and coilovers...

When I cut the wheel left to right from a slow roll I'm getting a clunk that sounds like something is stuck or binding...as per my last thread I took the wheels off and tugged on the sway bar, coilovers, etc and I didn't find anything. Anyone have any ideas?

I had that same issue on my VIII, I took it to the dealer and they couldnt find anything wrong. The day I drove it there it was doing that but it went away when they drove it.....I even drove and the service manager rode along and it wouldnt do it. This is after weeks of making that noise and driving me crazy, and it never came back after that. Then I traded it in on my IX.....but it was def. very strange?

Good luck!

I am having that exact same thing happen to me. I just can't figure it out either. I can feel it in the steering wheel when it clunks/pops too. And it is freaking loud. Can somebody please help us out!!! It seems as though it is coming from the left hand side but my buddy said he heard it on the driver side as well! HELP!!!

ok, i had the exact same symptoms. i talked to a very considerate guy at mitsu who happens to have a fiance from pittsburgh and met up with us at a local meet.

he advised me to change the strut mount bearing. this seems to have cured my spring binding issue.

sometimes the strut assemply still sounds "loose" at slow speeds over bumps, but no more of the horrific sounds i was getting.

Is there a part # for this strut mount bearing?

Mine just started doing this this morning. It is driving me nuts, but I am glad to see that it seems to be common. I can only get the clunk when the wheel is turned sharply to the left and I hit a bump. I can reproduce it half of the time this way, I have only been able to hear it once when going over bumps when going straight. Its like the coil binds and then slips causing the clunk. I check all my cv joints, they are all in working order. I wondered if possibly the steering rack might be the culprit?

Ok here is the page out of the manual. they replaced the strut insulator, and the strut mount bearings are part of that. you can see in the pic in the top left where to bearings sit. i called the dealer that replaced it just to verify the part number, and for the Front Right it is MR403282.

The only problem with this solution is that the OP and I both have coilovers so that pretty much negates the possibility that it would be the OEM strut Mount Bearing...Thanks anyway!

ah, i see. in that case i don't know. would it be possible to open up the mounts that came with coilovers and re grease the bearings?

if you guys do figure it out though, please post it up. i have seen a decent amount of threads dealing with this topic.

Megan's, I swapped back to stock suspension + springs for the time being until I can get Megan to warranty my coilovers.
