Do the obvious thing first and double check all the bolts that were removed to make sure everything is tight. If that doesn't solve the problem check the axles to make sure they are properly installed. Also check the shaft that goes from the left side axle through the TC and connects to the right side axle. That piece is removed during the clutch install and may have been installed incorrectly.

The other thing that it could be is the OEM strut bushings, although it most likely is related to the clutch install.

It could also be due to the clutch that was installed. What clutch was used?

I have the ACT MB7 HDSS and the prolite flywheel. I also have the buschar racing underhood metal bushings, poly shifter base bushings and a SS clutch line. Mitsu lead tech did my install while I was getting new syncros 4th and 5th as well as input shaft oil seal. I told the dealer what was goin on and he drove my car and said that it was coming from the front driver side. He also told me he had to order new bolts for the suspension because the old ones were worn out and that the noise would wear off but it has not so im kind of worried shoul I be patient? My car has been out the shop for a week now!

I would continue to be patient with them. What was his explanation as to the suspension bolts that "wore" out. Bolts don't typically wear out, inless of course they rust out but, that should not be the case of suspension hardware especially since you live in Florida.

I would just make sure you get complete explanations on what they are doing and why becuase alot of dealers will not tell you the whole story and replace stuff that in fact they broke or stuff that is not necessary to pad the mechanics time.

Since they did the job they would be the ones to check it for any mistakes.

cool thanks!! i seen the bolts and it seem if though the threading was worn down on some sides and gone in other places. I will be taking it up there today. I was trying to find out if the noise was part of break in

Well yeah, I'm the guy who brings the thread back from the dead. I too recently had this binding clunking noise start. Started about 2 weeks ago -- I have had PIC TSO's installed on my car since early March.

I'm still trying to figure out what this noise could be -- where everyone else hears their driving (i can barely hear it) mine is more pronounced when I'm actually sitting still -- more so the first time I have started the car after it has sit for a while. I can feel the binding and clunking in the wheel and clutch pedal. Definitely sounds like it's coming from the left front -- I have recently had the car double-checked for a bad alignment (tire rod loose or something) and it was perfect.

Anyone else have suggestions?

Its the spring on the coilover binding up and clunking when you turn. I had this problem with my KW V3's w/ cusco camber plates. When you turn the wheel, the bottom of the coilover moves with the hub, and the top rotates on the top mount. For some reason with the pillow ball mounts, the rotation isnt as free as the stock mounts. When you turn the wheel, the top spring mount is getting bound up with the camber plate, while the strut (and spring) are rotating. The popping/ clunking noise is the spring rotating on the upper spring mount.

I couldnt really come up with a fix for the noise on my KW's, so I bought Ohlins and never heard it again.

I have had the same problem on more than one set of coilovers. First it was on my STI with cusco Zer2R's, now on the evo with buddy club racing specs. I'm thinking about getting a higher end set like the ohlins but im worried im going to have the same problem.

Here's what the Head Tech at CBRD told me to do and it has worked for me and 2 other people. Spray a little bit of WD-40 onto the spherical bearing in your camber plate. That will clean off the bearing of any dirt that is surrounding it. It should clear up the sound ASAP. Try it and than post back. Good Luck.

Yea I tried to use wd40, bearing grease, and even motorcycle chain lubricant, but nothing seemed to work....

i'm having the problem with my buddy club racing specs. i concluded a long time ago that it's the top bearing in the camber plate. it seizes up, then pops when it breaks loose. it's easy to see because the noise is coming from the bearing. the other popping noise i get from the suspension, comes from lower, and it can be felt through the brakes, clutch, but i still dont know what it is. i'm tempted to just rip the whole thing out and start over.
