Hi everyone I have this issue. I just got new tired and had alignment done. Been driving car for a couple days. Today was first day I had the radio off. Upon driving I noticed a sound when I make a slow hard turn like turning around in a parking lot. It sounds like a binding noise. A quiet clunk,clunk, clunk. Stops when I straighten the car out.

I did a couple searches and people with similar probs said the top hats tend to go bad. My question is could it be something they did when they alligned the car or just a coincidence?

I am taking car back up to the place friday to have them look at it.

Car is a 05 MR with 93K miles. Never had any suspension replaced or damaged.

 

Check your end links to see any worn joints. A good shop usually check all those things before they do alignment but who knows.

Have a friend listen to it as you do slow turns at full lock one way then the other. That will help isolate to which side.

The sound you are describing could also be a bearing, click click click You also need to rule out the tires touching the fender liner since you just had them replaced

 

I had a similar issue and I am still on the war path to correct it. Assuming its not your strut (which is easy to check for leaks) I would also check your end-links and also check your front inner tie rods. I had a bad tie-rod. Its also like a mild clunking over small bumps.

 

bumping this, I am having the same issue. The clunking happens on right/left turns, more so on sharp turns or making a u-turn. There is no clunking noise if the car is parked and you are just turning the steering wheel to left/right

Inspect the condition of the CV boots. With both wheels off the ground, rotate the wheels w/the steering fully clocked left & right & feel for that clunk.

Check your bearing play as well by rocking the hub w/the wheel & tire on!

Loose sway bar endlinks can cause a clunking sound as well. Check those connections

 

It could be a LSD just doing what it is supposed to do.

 

I do have a Wavetrac lsd, are they prone to making a clunking noise?

The plated rear diff, even stacked in the OEM condition, will sometimes make noise.

 

I have a TRE rear diff. I am thinking of going back to OEM fluids in the trans/tcase/diff to see if it reduces the chatter/clunk. Right now I am running AMSOIL in the trans/rear diff and Motul in the trans
