Just had Kumho Ecsta ASX's installed

I was a little apprehensive about going from a sticky summer tire (stock Advan) to an all-season tire, but I am really impressed with these tires. They hold corners great and I can't hear any road noise from them. It's been raining all weekend and they haven't let me down once when taking a corner at speed. I will definitely buy these in the future.

Kumho makes a great product for their price point.

Their all season shoes do well overall with few sins and their high performance rubber is great for track days as they grip well and you don't have to get a bank loan to buy new rubber.

+1 they are a great value tire all around. they even do pretty well in moderate snow. for the buck and versatility they even perform pretty well under hard driving.

How about with ice? I need to order some all seasone this week (live in KC) and we jjust got a good few inches of ice and snow and have been having to use the wifes SUV all week.

Right now I hav ethe Khumo EXCTA's or whatever- summer tires and love them, but they don't do anything in the snow or ice- I just slide like I'm on a wet bannana. lol

Any other suggestions for good all seasons that I could use even into the spring months?

They may do "ok" on ice but if you want the real deal for that surface go for the Hakkapeliittas from Nokian. They are the unquestioned non studded rally snow and ice tire of choice and can be had for a fair price.

Kumho did make an ice tire but gave up on them for what may be obvious reasons, they didn't work at a level that one may hope. As a matter of fact a rally team that I worked with who has had Kumho as a sponsor for several years tried a set at SnoDrift with rather poor result. We finished second in our class but there was only one other car... oops.

they do so-so on ice. any tire has its limitations coming downhill on ice though. it's more dependent on the driver

Thanks for the info... i'm not planning on rally racing the car lol- and honestly won't drive it much when there is ice out- that's why we got the CX-7. I'm really just looking for a economical all season that will aid in driving to and home from work when sleet or freezing rain start to fall. Anything is better than my almost bald summer khumo ECSTA SPT's right now.

Kumho ASX's are great tires, though, the Toyo Proxes 4 are slightly better for a slightly higher price.

I guess it all depends on the conditions you're needing them for. Here in Olathe, KS we do get Ice Storms, snow, freezing rain, and sleet. If it's too bad I just work from home and use the wifes SUV. So it's not a massive deal. I just don't want to crash when I'm out in light conditions.

What size all seasons do you usually order? I heard thinner is better, as opposed to summer tires.

What size did you go with? How do they look on the car, and are they loud at high speeds?

Just stay with the stock size of 235/45/17 for all seasons.
From what I have read, seen and heard from people, although the Proxes are a good all season tire with especially good warmer temperature/dry performance, they probably are not as good as the ASX for snow and ice. Comparing the tread patterns of the two it makese sense. Proxes are also about 20-30% more expensive.
