Do the rear struts need to face a certain way?

I did my rear spings yesterday, and i noticed that the drivers side is about 1/4-1/3 inch lower than the passenger rear..everything is torqued down, the springs are seated properly...idea's?

the lower perch has the lip of the spring where it sits, faces to the rear.

And if it were backwards this would cause an issue? The HIGHER sitting side is facing the rear, the lower /drivers side is facing the front.

even from that pic i can see that the spring ends or begins however you look at it, is facing the rear.

OK, so if they were already out and reinstalled, how can you tell which orientation you should switch them to?

just stick your head under behind the wheel and see if the lip on the bottom of the spring is facing the rear...

i'm talking about the top of the struts/shocks. like how they say to mark a stud on each one to reorient them the same way.
