"Your rotors are cracked!"

I was sitting at a stop light and this guy pulls up and says "hey, man, your rotors are cracked!", and I said "really?", and he said "yah, man!"...then he drove off

I checked them, and what had happened was I just washed the car and the pads left a small amount of black residue on the rotors, so from a distance they look cracked. But I wouldn't doubt it that these wimpy rotors would crack.

So onto the question, I'm only at 6000miles and rotors are warped and I drive like a wimp. So do I take it back to the dealer and demand new rotors?

try re-bedding the pads.
Do you get any steering wheel pulsating on the highway when you brake?
I really believe our rotors are pretty decent and a lot of times they are just not
bedded in properly that's why most people think the rotors are shot.

I have 15k on my stock rotors and they are absolutley fine.
I do quite a few spirited driving.

I had the same problem with my 03. Go to the dealer and demand new rotors. The dealer I went to screwed me. They told me that eventually they would be fine about 3 times. After the 3rd time I went back and they told me I was out of my brake warranty. Garbage.

most dealerships will say that rotors fall under normal wear of the car and do not qualify for warranty

you didnt warp crap.

You have extra pad buildup, causing that pulse, pulse, pulse.

Bed the pads in.

My rotors are geat even with a lot of har driving. 18,600 miles and going, no warps or cracks, smooth as hell. I even drive the **** out of my car, on occasions i heat up the pads and rotors so much you can literally smell them. Damn I love this car!!

I'd change the brake pads honestly. The stock pads leave residue on the rotors that can help get em pulsing and warped

I changed mine to DS2500's a few weeks into owning my 9, to avoid the problem I had on my 8..best pads for street/autox use.

I make these things glow.

+1.

I had residue on the inside of one rotor from the factory. Actually had to make an appt to get it cleaned off.

Later, after tracking with the stock pads, I got the pulse - ala shaky steering wheel - when I braked lightly at high speeds. Hard braking was fine. Eventually switched up to a better pad and it's been great. Oh, and bedded the new pads in...

Oh, and it's pretty hard to warm/crack our stock rotors especially under normal driving from what I've read.

boomn29,

I am not sure what the problem is... but I am getting pretty severe steering wheel shakes under hard breaking during my last trackdays.

Light braking is no problem- a very slight hint of shaky steering. It's most apparent under hard braking at the end of straightways. This is with stock rotors and carbotech xp8 brake pads. Some guys at the track said that it's the residues of pad materials on the rotors causing this problem, so that I need to turn/re-surface my rotors. I haven't tried rebedding yet, gonna try it soon.

9 trackdays on stock rotors so far... Maybe they are up for the replacement parts???
