I am starting to look at various shock/spring combos and coilovers. As of now the ride quality of my Evo feels very harsh compared to the 350z that I just had. On the highway and streer I feel like a can feel every crack in the road, and bumps are very harsh. I have what appears to be stock shocks and springs, but I think I may have some kind of aftermarkey rear sway bar because there are little rubber pads that some one wedged up in between the bar and the car.
I'm looking for either a shock/spring combo or coilover that will give me a smoother ride/not as harsh ride, but not be Buick mushy. My car is a daily driver and will not see any form of track any time soon.
Suggestions?

I got the Bilstein's in mine and it felt a whole lot better. I wouldn't say the ride is softer, more like the dampening is more controlled. The KYB rebound is a bit too much. I like the ride of the Bilstein, but I'm changing out the springs to swift pretty soon.
If you're going to use the car for daily driver and not track the car much, I wouldn't even go with coilover because it's kind of an over kill. There's quite a few members that sells the MR suspension. You should check it out.

I went with a buddy club coil over and I thought it actually rode softer than it did stock.......

Get the MR bilstein suspension and changed to an ultra high performance all season tire if your still on the advans.
Should I just start by getting off the advans? They are pretty much done and need replacing ASAP, but I didn't think that just changing the tires would make a big change in the feel. What's different about the MR suspension over a regular 8 or RS suspension?

duh... someone suggest you to replace advan with all season tires, if they are done why not replace them? it's common sense.Originally Posted by w8lifter21

and I am sure you know that MR bilstein has better ride quality, why not just get a used set and save a lot of money and still have performance and comforts.

The Advans have hard sidewalls and you will feel every little thing in the road. My car originally came with Nexen N3000 all-season/performance tires that rode really well. I wanted more grip so I switched to a used set of stock Advans. They rode much harder. I'm also running stock KYBs with GTWorx/RaceComp Engineering springs and I love them. I was thinking of changing to MR Bilsteins just as tvbf1 mentioned. I think it will improve the ride even more.
I would say that the best combo for the street would probably be Swift or RCE springs on MR Bilsteins and a tire with a softer sidewall than the stock Advans. Try that out and post your experiences!!!!

Yes it is common sense, that's why I said I was changing them. I just didn't know that by doing so, it would change ride quality other than say a change in road noise.Originally Posted by fugiwara

How would the MR suspension compare to say Tein Basics?

The MR Bilsteins ride very very well....use them with stock springs or an upgraded spring and they still ride well, and handle great too.
If you don't want to get used struts, Bilstein also makes an HD strut that you can get new for around 600-700 bucks.

I have a set of BC Racing coilovers and they ride extremely well when set to full soft. Much better ride quality than stock and much better than stock with new springs. Then, if you put them to full hard setting, the car rides like it's on rails and body roll is minimized significantly. Plus you then have height and camber adjustability as well.
You can get a set of these coilovers for around $900 shipped from a few vendors on this forum. Megan Racing street coilovers are also a good choice for around the same amount. You can then sell your stock suspension for around $400. So, your coilovers will cost you total $500 and they are easy to install yourself.

the MR bilsteins are really cush. almost too cush for me actually. but I daily drive the evo 50+miles a day - so i'm extremely happy with them.

I wanted a smoother ride too, so upgraded to the MR Bilsteins and am much happier now. It's no Cadillac, but it rides a hell of a lot nicer.

Bilsteins are still good for track use with the right springs and other goodies. Ride quality is way better than those stock KYB's also.
I searched under those numbers and Bilstein.com has a listing for them

Assuming I would go with the MR suspension or something similar, what would be a good spring to go with? I would like to maybe lower the car 1" or so, but if that will result in a stiffer ride, then that kind of defeats the purpose.
I am by no means looking for Cadillac ride quality, but maybe something that doesn't make my teeth click over bumps
