You probably need new pads. Have you inspected the thickness on your pads recently? Stockers can be good for 15K to 45K miles depending on your driving.

I got around 23k on my brake pads and I'm getting paranoid about it only after my uncle told me to check it out the a few months ago. Everytime I pull up to the stop light, I don't know if it's my mind is playing tricks on me or if I know that my brake are wearing out. I inspected a few time in the last few months and the brake pads were ok. The manual said a minimum of 2mm. So if I measure it right than I'm ok, but I'm still paranoid about the whole thing. once in a while I hear this squeeky noise and I don't think it's from my car, cus when I kept on braking it doesn't squeek anymore. So I always make sure it's not from my car that is making that noise. I don't track my car nore drive it hard anymore so I'm thinking about getting some new pads whenever I get the blink blink. Going for the decent price ones, something that wouldn't cost me more than $200. i've been thinking about getting the Hawk HPS Front + Rear EVO Brake Pads COMBO DEAL for $159. Any reviews on this pads? or any other pads I should tried for street driving use?

Squeeks and such here and there are normal attributes to these brakes, they're more sport oriented and thus a bit noisier. If it's a constant thing aaaallll the time it could be the wear indicator, just check the pads to make sure.

On my bike (which this was much easier to do this on) I used to remove the pads once in a while and use some break cleaner and sand the pad a little bit to help get rid of the noise for a while.

this has me curious as well....my car does the same thing at very slow stops...mostly when going in reverse out of the driveway...I get a screeching sound...but I only have 4700 miles on the car. I was under the impression that evo's came with a more aggressive brake pad that was responsible for this sound, but insight would be great.

I wouldn't worry about this my Evo has done this pretty mch from day one. If you chamfer/taper the outer edges of the pad this would/will go away (some pads come with this done already). the other thing that makes it go away (for me) is to spray the brake dust off (with water for me) If you want truly quiet brakes you might have to get less agressive pads. You know it's normal when the owners manual talks about it...

20k

I got about 20k miles out of the stock brakes and rotors. I'm a very spirited driver. You need to check both your inner and outer pads for wear and make sure they are wearing evenly. If they have enough pad on them then squeaks here and there are normal. I bet you if you get on them hard the noise will go away.

Your brakes will squeak and should squeak, it's normal. It could be a number of things that can cause this, dirt, rust, etc. Now when you get down to the wear indicator on the brake pads, then you will have a continuous squeak. Check your pads and see if the wear indicator is rubbing.

Our stock pads dont come with wear indicators, so they wont squeek when they are bad. The fastest way to check is look at your brake fluid...as long as nobody has filled it up, the more your brakes go down the less fluid you will have. When my brakes needed to be replaced, my low fluid light came on.

Both my front and rears had to be changed at 21k. I drive spirited quite a bit as well, and the fronts maybe could have pushed a few more miles but the rears were about done.

Evo brakes squeel. Period. You shouldnt have bought a car with brembos if that bothers you that much hehe. Also, the lower speed the stop, the more tendency to squeel. If you get on them, they wont make a sound. My new ferodos all around using the stock shims and lots of brake grease dont make any noise at all.

FWIW, I changed out my stock brembo pads to Performance Friction Metallic Z and Napa Replacement rotors (exactly same specs as stock), and they make the same damn sound as the stockers. I don't mind it, as this is mainly my solo car, and not so much a dd..

However, I did read in the how-to section of this forum that using regular 'disc-quiet' brake pad silencer was worthless for our brakes; the pads get far too hot for traditional anti-squeak.

He recommended using copper anti-sieze instead. I may give this a try just for experimentation's sake.
