I have been tracking my car quite a bit this summer running on stock struts and Swift Sport Springs. While I will eventually invest in a good set of coilovers (your gambling with anything below about $2000), I am VERY happy with the change from stock spring to the Swifts. My car's secondary ride is much improved due to the progessive coil and corners flatter than before because the spring is overall stiffer. It was an inexpensive upgrade (thanks GTWORX good price ) that I would highly recommend. The Bilstein struts I have heard good things about, but I cannot comment. However, if your stockers are done, go with the HDs and a set of Swifts or GTWORX springs. GL!

Many people will argue that the difference between coilovers and after market shocks and springs is not enough to justify the price difference. However, not many people know that coilovers- if picked correctly- can outperform any combination (well maybe not ANY, but probably all the mass produced brands) of aftermarket shocks, and springs.

I'd say you’re taking more of a gamble using the stock struts to track, than by getting a well rounded coilover. For the price, D2 coilovers offer some seriously good bang for the buck. You can really see it in their physical design; no welds anywhere, fully CNC aluminum- no steal, anodized - not painted, Teflon coated - silent during daily driving, serviceable in the USA too. Downfalls seem to be centered around the shock. Rebound and compression are adjusted in the same turn, so you’re limited on your tuning combinations. Also, adjusting the shocks can sometimes be a guessing game because there are no physical clicks that eliminate the guesswork, and the adjustment tool might as well be a crow bar, it's not for tight places (bad thing if you own a 350z, like I did).

I went from Megan Tracks (made by BC) back to a proper spring/strut/sway setup and I have not looked back. Rides great on the street and is flat-out awesome on the track.

Basicaly, it went like this. Last season on Megans - middle of the pack. This season I have a few 1st, 2nd, 3rd place finishes. Only off season changes - susp.

Hardly a gamble at $275 for a set of springs compared to $900 for a set of bad coilovers. Clearly, I would purchase a set of good 'well rounded coilovers' if I was perpared to spend 2000 or more (as I have stated I intend to do). However, $275 for a set of good springs is the best bang for your buck you can get as a casual track user...

Thanks

Experience does also matter. But from my experience, I am faster on my current setup than on my old. The data I have are the trophies and laps at Grattan that are as fast or faster than coil-over, slick tire cars.

I think this setup rivals all entry level coilovers. I think to better it you would have to spend more money. Which is one of the factors that lead me to this setup - cost/benefit.

All depends on the condition of your struts. If they are worn then springs might qucken their death. Many have changed to la good set of springs without any ill effects.

First, you would have to remove them-- take the springs out- clean them and check for leaks-- check compression by pushing down on them and making sure there's considerable resistance--check rebound by releasing them on full compression and make sure they go back up fully and quickly.
Rudimentary but that's your best bet.
