putting springs on increased highway mpg?!

so this weekend i put on my tein s-tech lowering springs, and yes i know i hurt the handling but its my only dailey and i like dumped look.. car looks sick

anyways, i drive 50 miles from school and back twice a week.. my evo is pretty stock (dp, hi flo cat and catback) with the stock tune... i dump gas. on the days i go to school, ill be lucky not to loose a 1/4 tank from my house and back. 1/8 to school 1/8 back.

so i filled her up last night, went home, came to school today only to find that my gas had harley moved.. this was weird i wasnt drafting behind a truck or anything! i actually hauled ***! and i drove the same way home hauling ***.. and it had only used a 1/8 tank! about half of normal!!
so i guess its cause im lower or w/e idk.. but i DEFINATLY saved alot of gas today.
not sure if its the springs, wind direction or anything like that..

thought id share my interesting little story.. im excited haha

Hurting you handling and your struts. But to each their own.

No re-alignment? Going to hurting your tires too.

Also, not something that I have heard/seen/experienced.

Windy? Wind to you back? Or filled the tank up to its limits. Depends on the pump and how sensitive their stop meters are.

If you truly want to enjoy better MPG - retune it.

yes i am aware of the alignment.. my shop isnt open sundays and i have school mondays. car will be aligned tomorow. i am also aware of the strut damage, which is not a concern to me seeing how i will be getting coils in approx. 6 months.. springs where a temp soloution to the ugly ride height.
when i fill my tank, i let it auto fill with the switch thing.. and put no more in it. so it should be just about right. stock pump etc.. i do run 38 psi in my tires so that helps a little. but either way, i noticed a difference in the amount gone on an average trip.

Going by the fuel gauge is a wildly inaccurate way to measure your fuel consumption. The only semi-reliable way to do it is to fill your tank, drive, refill, then calulate based on miles driven on previous tank divided by the amount of fuel require to fill it again.

yes, i know this, basing the fact that the needle only went half as far only excited me.. my next trip it could double.. i WOULD say that about 1/4 tank (accuratly) gets me about 50 miles give or take 10 miles depending on amount of rompage i do. i have never seen it not be fairly accurate to 50 miles, this time its different. so once the tank is gone, i will repost the milage on the tank compaired to my average 240ish per tank.

or you could just do it a much easier way, fill it.. drive it till e, devide the miles by 14 or 12(i think thats the tank size?) and theres your mpg.. duhh

You have less airflow going underneath the car with the slammed front end.

Andrew is right, less lift from the lower front end and lower CD is suppose to help some with gas mileage especially on longer highway trips. However, don't expect much from it on city driving.

+1 on the reduced drag from being lowered

Also, your tires may have additional neg camber now that you lowered your car. If this is the case, you will experience increased outside shoulder wear on your tires, and your mpg may improve a bit because of the slightly reduced contact patch in the straights.

You filled up the night before right? There's your answer. The top half of the gas tank moves slower than the bottom half.
