Spacer Needed?
Spacer Needed?
I picked up my Evo 9 from a local dealer with a bent stock wheel for 18,000 with 20,000 miles on it. Ordered a set of Advan TCII 18x9.5+35 and I have looked everywhere to check if a spacer is needed or not. The car is on megan coils right now. Im thinking the front might need a spacer, but I dont know about size. Anyone think they can help me out? I have abused the search key endlessly. Thanks.
Most likely you will need a front spacer. How thick will depend upon the coilovers and tire size. Some of the factors are how much neg camber you run, what the OD and position of your springs are, the design of the coilover lower mount, etc. My guess is probably around 5-15mm will be necessary.
Best thing to do is have a tire mounted on the rim and put it on the car. Buy some washers and load them onto the lugs until you have enough clearance between the coilover body, spring or spring perch (these are the tight points). Then measure the washer stackup thickness and order the appropriate spacer. Make sure the measurement is done when the camber has already been set as this can have an effect on the necessary spacer (the lower bolt changes the position of the strut relative to the wheel).
Edit: Don't even think about driving the car with washers as your spacers, this is a fitment tool only!
Also take note of how much thread engagement you have. Chances are you'll need longer studs or spacer with a built in stud.
